dat face in the last panel. i think i know that face. it's the face of "this journey was long and hard and i hurt and i haven't slept or eaten properly in ages, but if that dinosaur is okay then i'm okay because then i'll get my dream job with my hero and it's okay" but the dinosaur is NOT okay so she's finally realizing just how not okay SHE is and it's crashing down HARD. so i just wanna clean her up, get her something to eat and have her sleep in a hyperbaric chamber or summat and fix everything because she seems like a small, frail kitten and OH GOD DON'T CRY.

I had originally seen the decapitated brontosaur as an awkward punchline, but the way you put it it's a devastating blow to a stressed-out psyche.
See, THIS is why uploading comics one page at a time is such an advantage to the creators. We can get insightful feedback like this right here and it can take the story into a direction we hadn't thought of before.

The little dino was just too delicate for the cross-country trip in a luggage case.
And she hasn't exactly been handling the thing with kid gloves.

Necrotizing faciitis is some dangerous shit that should only be handled in a sterile hospital environment by professionals, thus Quen sends Rex to get "the soovie" (car). Taking the bandages off here and now would put both guys at risk for infection.
