I spy ... the gay. I like that they're an older couple than you usually find in LGBT-positive fiction ... also an uncommon ethnicity! GASP. Did you know Japanese anime is only JUST starting to normally feature darker-skinned characters?! That's unrelated, but I thought it would be interesting trivia.
I just really like these characters. They're so different, but they still manage to look like PEOPLE. <3 That's my goal for my own casts.

YEP! Oddly enough, we have bi, gay, asexual, and straight all in that lineup. I didn't really intend for that to happen.
I like that they're all older, too. I specifically wanted characters in their 30s (save for Corelle, who is 16 or 17 here). We end up following them over the course of 50 years, so we'll see them age and develop as people.

Is Corelle the asexual one? She strikes me as it, for some reason. Or maybe it's because she's the only one in the picture not making a detailed expression. XD It just looks like Rex said something and everyone's reacting to it.
I, for one, cannot wait for the millipede tanks. 8D
I'm feeling pretty solid with how they're developing right now, as in : I have the fundamental barebones of who they all are already, it's just everything else ... their world is fleshed-out, too, but it could probably stand some more things. It's a superpowered world. If a meta, "superpowered-person," is born, they're pressured into, "converting to heroism," and serving American society, "beneficially." Funny thing, the U.S. of A. is the only country in the world that goes all out with, "putting its metahumans to good use," and the main character, Vincent, is also a metaperson ( his powers are volcanic -- earthquakes, magma, and extreme heat ), and he is an activist. Online, anyway. He'd actually go out and march in those pro-meta parades if he weren't so afraid of people ... he blogs on the Internet and rants about how unfair it is that a meta must either be a hero, or a criminal. Eventually he gets labeled a supervillain for his views. Also his boyfriend is possibly the Antichrist.

Corelle has a mild form of autism as well, possibly Asperger's. I need to do more research to get it right.

I suggest personal experience stories ... particularly the painful ones. I remember my younger days being filled with nothing but rollercoasters -- the morning started off okay, the afternoon was terrible, and it was a cycle that kept going, and if it was broken, I was in despair.

I actually really like how close in color his hair and skin are to a neutral gray. I feel that it emphasizes a bit of Quen's character. Viktor is more black and white, cut and dry sort if character (but I may be wrong) but I feel that the color gray is symbolic of Quen's nature. He is an array of different feelings. I feel that he is very unpredictable in reaction. He's neither one or the other, neither black nor white but everything and also nothing. Or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass because im sleepy.

I'm very, very happy that you picked up on this!! I was afraid I was being too subtle!!
All four of them represent a different classic literary mindset.
Victor is black - he's pessimistic, cold, rational, and disciplined. He's also capable of huge bursts of emotion due to his daily restraint. He's what most stories would see as a "bad guy", but here's he's the love interest (I like to fuck with expectations).
Rex is white - he's optimistic, a humanist, idealistic, and adheres to romantic concepts of right and wrong. He's the most "normal" of the group, seeing that he's the most accessible and predictable character of the four. He's what most stories would see as the "hero", but here he's the best friend.
Quen is grey - he's unpredictable but realistic. He sees the rawness of the real world and doesn't judge it optimistically or pessimistically - he sees it as it honestly is. He's white's best friend and the black's lover. Black, though pessimistic, is based in truth, while white points to ideals and says what the truth SHOULD be and often does not look at what it really is. By being neither black nor white, grey is the strongest and most stable, despite his unpredictability.
Last, Corelle is color - grey's compliment. Color is able to do the same things that grey can, but is healthier. She represents life and beauty that is also a middle-ground, but one that can see reality without being jaded by it.
Yeah, I psychoanalyze my own work. It helps me add depth.
