Grianne saw Henri standing there on the deck of his ship, La Poule Courageuxe, glistening manfully in the light of the setting sun. The sight of him in his loose shirt and tight pants filled her with feelings, feelings she had never felt before. She ran to him with arms outstretched, chest heaving like the rolling waves of the sea. He caught her in a passionate embrace"Oh Henri!" she cried, "I cannot lie any longer! I love you!"
"Oh Grianne," he responded, "I have longed for you since first we met!"
"But alas," Grianne sighed dramatically, "People will talk!"
"Let them talk!" he responded, "As long as we're at sea the world is our oyster, and you are the shiniest pearl!

This is an entry for the 'trashy romance novel cover' contest over at by and fav.me/da26uf8
I've been meaning to finish this for ages, and with the deadline coming up I finally got on it. The idea was to make a silly novel cover featuring characters from The Alverdale Tangle in the vein of those cheesy romance novels we've all seen before. I chose the characters Grianne and Henri because they're too flippin' adorable to ignore, and I could not pass up the chance to name a ship 'The Courageous Chicken'. I had to put them on a pirate ship and make it a high seas romance, because I'm Captain-Savvy XD I'm pretty pleased with the way it came out. And now, back to working on commissions. They're coming, I promise!!

Lol! This is really brilliant- I can tell you've pulled out all the stops here! The shading is superb- this is definitely, definitely one of your best pieces! I love the pose, it definitely looks like it could be off the front of a trashy romance novel!
Your grasp of anatomy just gets better and better and I love Grianne's gown- it's definitely a 'bodice ripper' one! And this is probably more graceful and sexy than these two will ever be in their original story! (More likely to be reeling about, giggling like children, racing chickens and puking over the sides!)
I loved your use of the phrase 'manfully' and the shivered timbers made me giggle-snort! Great extract, really cheered me up after a hard day! Thank you so much for taking the time to enter our contest, we really appreciate it and I can tell you had fun with this piece

Oh my god it's so brilliant (and suitably dramatic and impossible in it EVER happening as imagined)
The Courageous Chicken is a fine vessel, probably the fastest ship on the sea (for those courageous reverses in the opposite direction - we don't call them 'escapes' or 'retreats'), and I can honestly say that it MUST be a fantasy if Henri has a body like that *superimposes head on someone else's body* 
I cracked up at the "swashed buckles and shivering timbers" (and 'chest heaving like the rolling waves')
I love the pose, it's so "trashy romance", and Grianne's dress is sooo pretty (all swishing skirts and low-cut bust) - also - it works out great because one little known fact is that Henri did at one point want to be a pirate (a very long point ago when he was little - only it was more like a nightmare mixed up with a secret hope - both terrified of being press-ganged and hoping it would happen!) - alas pirates don't usually sail up canals, so he can only assume they were in no need of new cabin-boys (dangit)
He's probably make a stinking pirate anyway (you know, all that wencihng and pillaging would not be good for his law-abiding constitution)Β - but one can only imagine - it might make him almost as cool as his sea-faring, whale-hunting cousin - but I doubt, he's a freshwater-fish, not salt!
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention - hooray for adding his facial scar! That's often forgotten
