Description
You know, I meant to do a big 'ole picture of the moon in ink a while ago, but I thought "eh, it's been done to death (not that that's ever stopped me from making LoZ fan art before) and nothing could look as creepy as the actual game version." But yesterday I was playing some of the Final Hours theme on piano, and suddenly I had to ink it. I rushed through it just to get it out of my brain! DONE!!Check out some of the initial sketches!--> Majora's Mask Moon Sketch Dump

The moon looks more terrified instead of angry. XD
Still, this is pretty amazing.

Thank you! I mean, I'd be at least a little terrified to be running into another planet that would be my own destruction too.

Would it be alright if I used this picture in one of my upcoming videos called So Cold Zelda XXXVII? If you want to check previous videos like the above out, search "Jac0Frost0" up on YouTube. Don't worry; I will credit you for your work.
The way you used the ink splotches in this picture is unique. I like it. It adds dramatic emotion, and adds to the already creepy and demented moon. I also liked the color you used for the sky.

It's very sad, really. It's actually a pretty horrifying concept for a game! Now that I think about it, I wonder if the earth had a face and was grimacing back at the moon.

That's an interesting thought. Maybe you should draw a grimacing earth and a grimacing moon someday

Ugh, I guess I'm in love with your work. This is incredible, and probably one of the better interpretations of this scene. And it definitely does not look rushed to me by any means. This is an incredible work of art

Lol, d'aw, thank you! I wish I could have a loop of the final hours theme playing with it, that would just complete it. XD

To be honest, just because an image or an idea has been done before by someone else shouldn't hold you back from doing your own version if it's what you want to do! It's kind of like storytelling - there are no 100% completely original ideas - everything, to some extent, has been done in some way or form. But if everyone decided to stop telling stories simply because "it's been done before," we wouldn't have any stories at all! Art is very much the same. If you really want to do it and you find it fun, don't hold yourself back. C: Especially since every individual artist is unique - every artist has their own style and flair, and will interpret things or view them differently from each other, therefore producing some pretty diverse results.
Personally, I love that you decided to do this and had the inspiration to. This piece is absolutely lovely - you have such a gorgeous take on that ominous moon looming over the world. The way it focuses so heavily on the moon is fantastic - you really get that vibe of it being an ever-present danger, and Termina feels so small and helpless in comparison. What a desperate situation - surely we have need of the Hero of Time to change the fate of this world!
Those dynamic colors really add to the atmosphere. That reddish tone is just so foreboding, and the darker parts around the edges make it feel like your doom is really beginning to creep in. Final Hours is a very apt name for this piece - as hope diminishes in the face of such finality as this. Your little tree detailing is such a great touch, I might add - even the texturing on the grass. I think it's a perfect blend of populated versus bare - just enough that it seems balanced. And man oh man that overall grunge effect going on with the texturing is really gorgeous.
I especially love the demented face of the moon. The mouth is so detailed - right down to the teeth and the lips and everything. There's even skin folds where the mouth is stretched in its grimacing expression - you know what they say about things baring their teeth and all. The little lines / cracks in each tooth is just gorgeous too - and the folds around the eyes make it look so baggy. You've really done a fabulous job of catching the theme of its face - the pupils of the eyes being so small, while the multicolored sclera is so large - it's such an intense, hardcore expression and boy do I love how you depicted it, yes I do.
Even those little indents / craters in it are just really lovely - the overall lighting of the piece is fabulous. Like the COLOR of those teeth - yellow with hints of red - it just matches the eyes so well on a subtle basis. Or the yellow lightning on the bottomside of the moon - just lovely! And you even fit in what appears to be a watermark for yourself on there quite nicely - it blends in and complements the picture rather than distracting from it. C: Great job! I am, again, very happy you chose to do your own interpretation of the moon, as it is a very well done piece.

Ooh, thank you so much!! ^^ I love hearing when people like a piece of mine, and knowing that the little details weren't all for naught! I was aiming for some serious scale in Final Hours, because it always freaked me out how in the game you'd tilt your gaze up to the sky on the final day and BAM the moon had engulfed your entire view!! O_o I also started him out with a much more menacing expression, but I thought, you know, running into the earth means the moon's destruction too, so he can't be without some regrets... I'll throw some preliminary sketches of the moon into my scrapbook soon! Thanks again for your review, it makes me feel like I may have actually accomplished what I set out to do!

You're welcome; I think you pulled off that scale well, and I do agree about it engulfing your vision. It's such an ominous, looming presence in the game and an ever-constant reminder of your imminent demise!
Haha that comment reminds me of this little comic strip - I guess that's why the moon sheds a tear! xD
