Description I got some Prismacolour pencil crayons (coloured pencils for everyone outside my local area, it seems) for Christmas. So, I did a quick drawing to test them out.

This is Kyle the Shade, and his PR, Stella. She likes him. He doesn't. They're from my fanfic, which is exclusive to Fanfiction.net.

...I should get some better paper that isn't textured. Standard 8 1/2 by 11 is too flimsy and this texture isn't to my liking. I do like the blending abilities of the colours, though!

Edit: I just realized I can ask for critique now. Hooray!

I'm always jealous of your colors asdfdfd, but I'm meant to critique, so...
The coloring on the characters is amazing, but the background is a bit too white, I guess? Add a bit more color back there, I think.
The left hands fingers look off to me. I think, in comparison to the right hand(which looks nice, BTW), the fingers are a bit too short.
I can't really see Kyle's tail here. It's kind of there, but mostly stuck in the couch. Or that is how it looks to me.
I personally like the texture in the picture, honestly. It has a sketchy kind of look to it I like. You could use the paper to recreate a flashback or something.
Glaceon looks fine as is to me, really.
Looking around on the picture's background, the couch looks small... Or is it one of those easy chairs?
This is a nice picture, though. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

You're welcome! It's extra funny cuz Monferno has two type advantages against Glaceon!

Aww, that Glaceon looks so cute, and her shading looks nice! And the expression of the Monferno makes me laugh. XD

Really good! It's also nice to see a picture of the Shade(s). I always felt sorry for Stella...

Thanks! Yeah, I don't tend to post pictures of my characters all that often. I mean, I doodle them all the time, but I very rarely add colour. I feel like I should do way more with them, though (might give people incentive to read, I dunno).

Poor Stella's personality just doesn't really mesh with Kyle's... At least, not the one he had now. Had it been a different time and place, perhaps things would have been different...

I like how this one loks. Even when the paper was unintentional, it gave it a nice texture that blended it all together fairly well. I love the way you draw expressions, too.

I think I might give your fanfiction a read one of these days, it could be well-worth it, although I am not the biggest fan of 'humanizing' Pokemon. The again, I am not sure of how the story is like, but that perception is based off the fact monferno is wearing a jacket.

Oh, I get your aversion to that - it bothers me too, actually. I don't want to give too much away (I've already spoiled a bit in the description, to be honest), but the sweater itself is a minor plot point. And "humanizing" PokΓ©mon, well... you may be surprised... that particular term you used gives me the smirk of a satisfied author. C:<

...I'm being incredibly cryptic. |D;

Incredibly cryptic, hmm...? Hee-heheh, I can already start theorizing.

I would love to hear those theories.

simonxp1 In reply to CaptainPiika [2011-12-30 05:03:50 +0000 UTC]

Let's analyze this throughly, shall we?

The term 'humanizing' makes you feel satisfied...Yet you, too, hold an aversion to making Pokemon seem like humans.
Here's the catch; It's despiseful to see that when it's not on 'purpose', but rather by the misconception of humanity to make everything around it human aswell.

When you say you feel satisfied, this could be because it was led on purpose, otherwise the term wouldn't be something you'd like, hence the "...you may be surprised...".

At the end, this leads me to believe that the 'humanizing' is part of the story itself, naturally, even when this is a first insinuation that is arguably easy to catch.

In other words, Kyle could've been a human, or is behaving like a human for some reason. There is the possibility that he idolizes them and tries to follow their behaviour, but there is also the possibility that something else is at play.

...Am I right?

CaptainPiika In reply to simonxp1 [2011-12-30 05:26:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh, yes. The human/PokΓ©mon differences in society and personalities is a huuuge theme of the story (if I do say so myself). I can honestly say it is one of my favourite things in the whole world. X3

As for your guesses, well, none of them are quite it. You're very close, though.

Consider this: Stella is an actress, and Kyle was born and raised in the wild. They both have human names. Now, why would that be?

simonxp1 In reply to CaptainPiika [2011-12-30 05:29:15 +0000 UTC]

MissPiika, ma'am, if you went as far as to consider that their names are human...
...Then you are most certainly a wonderful, wonderful writer.

I have more guesses already, but I'd rather read the story myself at this rate.

Now, there are a few things I want to mention here...
I could ask you for the link, yes, but is it anywhere near possible for you to submit them to dA aswell? i am actually asking this to you as a favour; I would love to see them here.

CaptainPiika In reply to simonxp1 [2011-12-30 05:43:29 +0000 UTC]

...That makes me very, very flattered. ^///^

I'll give you the link here: [link]
Please bear through the early chapters - I personally think they're pretty bad. I mean, I'm not sure what others think of it, but my personal quality benchmark is past chapter 10 for decent, and past 19 for good. I'm not sure what your standards are, but just in case it seems bad. ^_^; (It may be self-depreciation...)

As for posting them here... I'll consider it. I hate having to go in and redo all the italics. And since I'm 40 chapters in, it'll take a while to edit. It's kind of a daunting task.

simonxp1 In reply to CaptainPiika [2011-12-30 08:11:58 +0000 UTC]

Naturally, the later chapters are sure to show improvement, however, it's not the same without being aware of how it started, now, is it?

I figure it could be, yes, but it would be well-worth it, I assure you. All you need is a bit of patience at the time of posting them. Granted, you don't have to, but it would be fantastc if you did.
