I personally have never had a creeper blow my house up either, but that's because I take precautions to avoid such events.

Argh tell me about it, I've had to start over like 7 times because of a stupid creeper. So many tools and wood lost TT^TT

It usually takes me a few days before I start mining, honestly. I stay up top for a while and build a home, sometimes search for a village to move into, and erect walls and crops first. Stockpile the good stuff and make my home nice and safe.

I used a generated seed to spawn me in a village. At the moment I'm working on building fences to protect the village, then I'm going to build a wall and castle to overwatch the village.

Same here... except without the castle, and there's even a roof. In fact, the only way the sun reaches my crops is because of a layer of glass above it all.

I'm actually going to see what we can do with NPCs and based on that I might but make the castle but leave it lightless and every now and then lead the NPCs in a glorious battle to take the castle from the randomly spawned monsters.
I'm also bored so I'm adding watchtowers to the fences lol

That'd be epic. Just watch out for the more dangerous of Mobs, like Creepers, Skeletal Archers, Spider Jockeys and Endermen.

What'd be really epic though, but hard to do is if you could get NPCs to follow you and lead a bunch into the Nether and just have a huge Zombie Pigmen vs NPCs and Player battle. Ghasts would be a killjoy though.

i was checking my inventory once then a creeper walked up in front of me, i was using a new tp so i wasnt sure wat to think when i saw it, then it blew up but it was a dumb creeper and blew up too far away

I actually need to construct a new nether portal because currently I have the problem of being on a nether rock island floating over an ocean of lava.

well I would but I scouted out the area (was actually a cave-like area before) turns out the only land is several thousand feet below me as well as tons and tons of lava.
Wouldn't be the easiest thing to do so a new portal is most beneficial XD

ah same happened here, only the lava was my own doing.
Skeletons ambushed me on my way out so using a bucket of lava i burned them but got trapped and died myself : |

aw bummer. have you done the new creative mode? lol you can fly and i was bathing in lava and nothing happened! xD its so much fun. when i'm mining i normally put it on peaceful mode cuz i hate zombies and such

Not yet but I hope to soon! I'm really bummed that there are no NPCs though. I'm currently just wandering around looking for a village. Once I do I'm going to forty it and what not and wait for 1.9 : P

no creepers can spawn in the light but im pretty sure its on mor natural blocks like stone grass wood dirt (e.t.c)
