Always felt container designs were underappreciated by the fan community.

I know this here is only a redo of a existing design, but did you ever consider doing a TMP era refit version?  This is one of the only DY container type ships I've ever seen to even a TOS era standard looking ship. Not aware of any out there at all for a TMP era standard look.

Hmmm...  wonder if one could make an adapter of sorts, to use and fit multiple DY containers into a more standard container size frame and a standard connector.   then the multitude of TMP era standard container module ships could pull DY containers as well...

Heck, thinking on it, even the more normal TOS/TMP container standard is not seen much in TNG era cargo and transport tug fan designs, which I always considered a pity, as it had the potential, with a good standardized carrier ship design, to eliminate a lot of dedicated specialized ship platforms.   There are fan container design ideas for Anti-Deuterium, Assault, Bulk, Carrier, Colony Transport, Combat Support, Engine Repair, Factory, Large Products, Liquids, Long Products, Medical, Mobile Base, Mobile Repair (Drydock), Products, Reefer, Shuttle Carrier, Starliner, and Surveyor.

Mix a TNG/TOS container design up with a actually capable ship design, say a heavy duty Hensley or Anaxagoras or Sultana class also with tractor beams, rather than a minimal hauler design like a fisher class or old Ptolmy, and you got a good fleet or task force level asset that could do the duty of pretty much all fleet support type ships in one standard design.

The tug/transport is probably one of least appreciated classes, in later Trek. As most post TMP era, tend to just be all purpose, or modular based.

True, and I can see the appeal in general...  but fans concentrate on a lot of other dedicated trek designs like tenders, and transports, and carriers.

My point though is were star trek real, it actually would make far more sense to have a generic ship that the duty or tasks it can do vary completely merely by swapping out its load, like by way of a pod.  I coulls see a few dedicated to each fleet with varied loadouts.

Need a carrier to the front in a war? Equip say a Brownwood or Sultan or Anaxagoras with carrier pods.  Need it to also haul some deuterium for low in the field starships? Not an issue.  Have a need for a mobile repair dock.  Add it in.   Need to take a ship by boarding, take a assault pod.    Considering a single heavy duty ship can take 4 pods or so...   that can all go on one ship.   Need it to detach for maneuvering to fight, it can, or leave the pods outside the battlefield as a mobile staging area and retrieve them later, you can.

In a different scenario, need it to handle large scale medical emergency, load up some medical pods.   Have a deadly outbreak, seal off the container from the ship and eject (try doing that from a main medical buried in a primary hull).

Sure, it may not be as quite as effective as dedicated ships to do each of those tasks, but it sure beats having to maintain and design all those from scratch dedicated ship designs and come out with new generations to replace them.

I've only seen really two attempts at a transport tug in the next generation timeframe, The Macpherson tug has a optional custom pod that looks a lot like a galaxy class engineering section.  And one I came across in a forum a while back which was called an Antares class that supposedly was to use the pods.

But to the original question, did you ever consider making a Movie era version of the Osmanieh for the DY container tranporting?  The DY containers were never done as diversely as the newer pod system, but they always interested me.

Don't know. Those are supposed to be standard cargo containers.

I cant find the mud-flaps with the naked lady on them in the pic? Yep, this is Star Trek not for Trekies or Trekers, but for Truckers. How different a spin-off that would have been?
