Description
The Discovery Class Deep Space Explorer is another of my Crossover designs (thanks to MasterOfPointillism for getting the idea stuck in my head).Trekifiying the USS Discovery from "2001: A Space Odyssey" and it's sequal.
Don't go quoting warp physics, please. It's just a crossover.
And as this is my second (third if you count the Jarillion) off-milestone crossover. I guess I might as well give up waiting for them to happen. And post them as they get drawn.

its the ship were jim kirk got his way with computers
I'm afraid. I'm afraid, jim . jim, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 2342. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.
Yes, I'd like to hear it, HAL. Sing it for me.
HAL: It's called "Daisy."
(sings while slowing down)
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

LOL. Though all Kirk had to do was talk to it. But Bowman(any relation to Archer?)had to actually start pulling out the isolinier chips.

WOW, what a loooooooooooooooooooong ship! LOL
I remember USS Discovery vary well. I even have a fold-out, poster-size interior map of that ship. It came with the role-playing game of 2001: A Space Odyssey (using the Star Frontiers rules). Like the movie, much of game is long drawn out and boring, but the little one-off scenario where you play prehistoric man-apes trying to survive long enough to encounter the "big black rock" is a real blast to play! (I swear, I can play-out that scenario until the mighty ape-man empire falls under its own weight. ~ All hale King Ugg!)

Yeah...I had to wonder just why the original from the movie didn't bend in on itself. Even in frictionless space, G-Forces on the frame would still be there, due to the internal pressures.

Like a Hauler, the ship is not all that fast or maneuverable. Any alteration to the flight curse would be ponderous at best, so gravitational forces are to slight to effect the frame. Naturally, the ship's structure was built above standard to handle such maneuvering, but pushing too hard on the controls (like building up too much momentum or pushing a turn too hard and too long) will tear the ship apart!
Would you believe that The Discovery One originally had Cooling Wings? But Kubrick had them removed because he did not want the audience to think the ship was aerodynamic.

Mr. Clarke would be proud. Sorry for the subliminal suggestion, but I really thought the other one was a crack at this one. Very nice job, probably gets better gas mileage than the original ....

Excellent work here.
(Kind of ironic that I see this while listening to the 2001 soundtrack)
