Description The Hungarian Medium tank M40 Turรกn I!

It was based on pre-war tank designs and doctrines, developed between 1940 and 1942, delivered to the army from 1943 and sent into combat against Russian armor in 1944.

...yeah, nobody expected this tank to be a big succes by that time, but they had to do with it. And the Hungarian tankers actually did a great job with these totally obsolete tanks against the tough Soviet enemy armor, so much so that they impressed the Germans with their bravery and skill. Veldmarschall Walter Model actually gave them 10 Tiger tanks and various other German tanks because of this.

I gave this drawing transparency because I felt like doing that... it looks a bit fancy, right?

I'm always interested in the equipment made by "Minor" countries in WW2. Nice job.

They made some very interesting machines indeed. Thanks!

Yeah, it looks like an italian tank - and even the commander's cap have that feel!
Which is not a good thing, considering how successful our tanks were against US and UK tanks in Africa - even if western allied tanks are not exactly remembered as state of art vehicles!

It seems Hungarian tanks also had the same kind of low-calibre main guns as the Italian ones, the 40mm "peashooter".
But the Italians seemed to have good armor-piercing shells for those at least. AFAIK.

I thought it was an Italian tank at first.
Uh-oh rivets! Not good for armor, good job on that by the way.

The Hungarians had some Italian Ansaldos too, they were all lost on campaign in 1941.
The Turรกn I was influenced mostly by Czech designs though. It was intended to replace the even more obsolete Toldi, which was an imported Swedish design.

Thanks!
