Aurora Australis, Mount Buffalo National Park, Australia. 17th of March 2013
This is the lookout below "The Horn" in the Mount Buffalo National Park. Over 180 degree panorama made from 8 portrait style images. The landscape is being lit by the light of the crescent moon which is the bright spot on the right of this image. Another one of my cameras is in the hut doing a timelapse (coming soon).

Thank you Steve Mt Buffalo is one of my favorite spots. I wish you the best of luck with your trip up there. I think they close the road to this particular lookout during winter though (maybe at the end of May from memory)

I'm used to seeing green auroras with the northern lights. Are they red in the southern hemisphere?
π: 0 β©: 1
CapturingTheNight In reply to Chazzier [2013-03-22 20:34:09 +0000 UTC]
What you are seeing there is the higher altitude aurora which is often red, purple and pink. The greens are the lower altitude aurora and I was not far enough south to really pick them up. I was more looking across the top of the aurora and not underneath it. The greens are more often recorded in northern lights as there is more land and thus more people to see and photograph them where they occur. The southern lights more often than not occur just in the southern ocean.
