I know many people do not like these sort of images but every so often I do them just for fun. The thing I like about them most is that they present an undistorted sky view as apposed to panoramic "Milky Waybows"
I did these set of images the same night as my previous image Farmers Delight.
18 image fisheye projection panorama from the 20/02/14. Glow on the left is light pollution. Faint green and red airglow towards the top. Best viewed on a black background and full size.
Canon 5D MkII, 14mm, F/2.8, ISO 3200, 18 x 30 seconds.

We ourselves are made of Stardust - Carl Sagam
"When I look up at the night sky and I know that yes we are a part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the universe is in us," Tyson said. "When I reflect on that fact, I look up, many people feel small cause they're small and the universe is big, but I feel big because my atoms came from those stars. There's a level of connectivity."

aaaahhH! that is what I was wondering... is it the earths atmosphere that acts as an aspherical lens, thus the milky way galaxy we are an arm of is actually "flat"?
I guess you kind of answered this, but maybe you have a more technical answer. <3 sammy

Thank you so much Yes the Milky Way is basically a straight/flat arm as we see it. The curved views of the Milky Way (like this for example: capturingthenight.deviantart.c… is because the horizon is projected flat.
