Milky Way reflections in a dam near my house in Australia. A very slight breeze was disturbing the surface of the water on the far side of the dam. Red colour in the sky is airglow and the brighter patch is distant light pollution from a city about 100km away.
Canon 5D mkII, 14mm, F/2.8, ISO 3200, Single 30 second exposure.

CapturingTheNight In reply to Halama [2014-02-07 23:24:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Because I use a camera that has very little noise at that ISO and what noise there is is easily removed in post processing.

You just got yourself another watcher

This is incredible. If I may ask you a question, please... Do you truly see that kind of sky with the naked eye? And if you do, how far do you have to go out and away from cities or light-sources?

CapturingTheNight In reply to Dreaming-Thoughts [2013-11-11 09:32:13 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Yes you can see the Milky Way with your own eyes as long as you get well away from artificial lights, but you don't see it as bright as this.  The long exposure and high sensitivity to light of the camera brings out a lot more detail and colour.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but where abouts was this taken? I know you live in NSW. I recently got a wide angle lens and I want to take some more night shots, but I have no bloody clue where to start. Last time I took some they were in Bombo/Kiama, and they turned out relatively good considering my lack of experience. If only I could get mine as noise free as yours though.

Regardless of that, fantastic shot as usual. I'm so jealous of your skill!

Thank you so much Between Wagga and Albury, but you don't need to travel to here to get good shots.  You just need to get as far away from city lights as possible.

I'll actually be heading down to Wagga soonish for army training. Hopefully get to bring my camera. Thanks
