Description
For April Event - Stuck In A Game?! - PKMN-CrescentCavernThis took soo looooooonnnngggggggggggggggggg (and so many late nights..) DX
Anyway, here it is.. I'll add levels etc later.. too tired to work it all out now.
Enjoy, and sorry it's a little big.. didn't have time to work out how to make it smaller XD
Please note: This isn't a real game.. so don't start pressing the arrow keys and thinking you're moving it
Frosty learns Flamethrower
Jangle learns Bubblebeam
(Ralph already knows Bite)
Levels (finally)
*Cracks knuckles*... here we go
First of all, the rolling background for the levels themselves counts as 2 levels per each unique complex BG (i.e. when a completely different section is shown), so I worked out approximately (I made sure to underestimate rather than overestimate x3 ) how many screens each level was divided into, which is as follows:
level 1 (grass) = 7 unique backgrounds @ 2 levels each = 14
level 2 (water) = 12 unique backgrounds @ 2 levels each = 24
level 3 (lava) = 22 unique backgrounds @ 2 levels each = 44
The rest, I'll break down for each character...
FROSTY:
Game Intro: Partial @ 2 lvls, simple background @ 1 lvl = 3 lvls
Life icon: Partial @ 2 lvls, simple background @ 1 lvl = 3 lvls
Complex animation:
- Idle: 7 frames @ 4 lvls each; 1 full body @ 3 lvls each, 7 partials @ 2 lvls each= 45
- Run: 8 frames @ 4 lvls each; 8 full bodies @ 3 lvls each= 56
- Jump: 16 frames @ 4 lvls each; 16 full bodies @ 3 lvls each = 112
- Hurt: 1 frame @ 4 lvls each; 1 full body @ 3 lvls each = 7
- Flamethrower: 16 frames @ 4 lvls each; 8 full bodies @ 3 lvls each, 8 partials @ 2 lvls each = 104
- Present on levels 1, 2 & 3 -- so background = 82
Event bonus = 2
Frosty gains 414 levels
JANGLE:
Level 1 intro: 1 partial @ 2 lvls each, specific background @ 2 lvls each = 4
Life icon: Partial @ 2 lvls each, simple background @ 1 lvl each = 3
Complex animation:
- Idle: 3 frames @ 4 lvls each; 1 full body @ 3 lvls each, 2 partials @ 2 lvls each = 19
- Move: 11 frames @ 4 lvls each; 7 full bodies @ 3 lvls each, 4 partials @ 2 lvls each = 73
- Swim: 6 frames @ 4 lvls each; 6 full bodies @ 3 lvls each = 42
- Into water: 13 frames @ 4 lvls each; 13 full bodies @ 3 lvls each = 70
- Out of water: 11 frames @ 4 lvls each; 11 full bodies @ 3 lvls each = 77
- Bubblebeam: 10 frames @ 4 lvls each; 8 full bodies @ 3 lvls each; 2 partials @ 2 lvls each = 68
- Hurt: 1 frame @ 4 lvls; 1 full body @ 3 lvls each = 7
- Present on levels 1, 2, 3 -- so background = 82
Event bonus = 2
Jangle gains 447 levels double
RALPH
Level 2 intro: partial @ 2 lvls each, specific background @ 2 lvls each = 4
Life icon: Partial @ 2 each, simple background @ 1 each = 3
Complex animation:
- Idle: 3 frames @ 4 lvls each; 1 full body @ 3 each; 2 partials @ 2 each = 19
- Walk: 10 frames @ 4 lvls each; 10 full bodies @ 3 each = 70
- Bite: 5 frames @ 4 lvls each; 5 full bodies @ 3 each = 35
- Hurt: 1 frame @ 4 lvls; 1 full body @ 3 each = 7
- Present on level 2 and 3, so background = 68
Event bonus = 2
Ralph gains 208 levels not quite so ... but still fairly
...

I spent the whole first level doing the buttons for it thinking it was a game, took my hand off of the keys for a minute to take a drink and then realized it was an animation. Very well done. ^^

Oh haha xD
I've had a couple of people who did the same xD
I did mention it on the comments but then I realised no one is going to look there until the thing finishes lol
Thanks a lot for the comment and glad you enjoyed it

Haha xD
I'm not sure there's much to teach. It was rally just a case of 'Draw.... Draw again... Draw again... See how it looks now'

Thank you ^_^
I'll probably open up simple animation commissions at some point when I decide on a fair price. I can ping you if you like?

What led your decision for a blue growlithe by the way?

He's a character for PKMN-CrescentCavern
In the group you can end up with Pokemon with different types etc and he is a fire x ice type, which is why he's fluffy and blue with a snowy tail

I see, that's an interesting concept. Hope one day we actually get an Ice Growlithe.
Why thank you I really appreciate that

I love it, it runs smoothly and has an interesting concept. The design is almost perfect. (I wish there were an actual game out there like this)

Thank you!!
A couple of people have said that x3
I might try to code a game like it one day.
I only had 10 days or so to do it, which is close to impossible in animation terms, so almost perfect is fine by me!!

I wish this were a game--that was awesome. This would work really well as a little flash game (played a bunch of those when the Internet was first becoming a commonplace thing that makes me sound old).
Awesome job! I can tell you did a lot of work on this!

Yeah, I was thinking I should try and code it as a game. (But then.. I kind of liked the idea that it's an animation in the form of a game as well)
And yes, I've played a lot of them too! And it doesn't make you sound old at all XD
And thanks a lot!!!

Sweet entry! I can tell you put in a lot of effort animating everything.
I really wouldn't mind a pokemon platformer that centers around 3 pokemon. I wish there was one I could actually play!

careas In reply to gummygunner [2017-04-21 12:15:45 +0000 UTC]
Why thank you!
Effort is certainly the word!
And time... lots of that too.. though I'm happy with how it came out!
I should try coding it sometime ^^
Not sure my computer would cope though... It kept crashing with this alone
