Description
London 1901Ramsden Howcroft, Secretary of State for Xanadu, goes for a walk with his good friend Nerokk, one of the highest ranking Benefactors stationed on Earth.
The two formed an unlikely friendship shortly after the enigmatic aliens arrived on Earth in 1897, working closely together on plans for British colonisation of Xanadu, a distant Earth-like exoplanet known to the Benefactors.
Howcroft is one of the Liberal politicians who advocated for collaboration with the aliens and was rewarded with a senior post in the puppet government headed by Prime Minister Joseph Chamberlain.
There is a growing resistance movement in Britain, led by people who regard politicians like Howcroft as traitors and the Benefactors as an enemy occupying force. A member of Howcroft's Special Branch protection team keeps a watchful eye on the street as the Secretary and his companion enjoy their stroll, knowing that a number of government ministers have been subjected to assassination attempts in recent weeks.
