Description
Using an existing hardbound publication of "The Neverending Story" (the one with alternating purple and green text) I decided to rebind it to look like the prop from the 1984 film. Although this project was fun transforming an existing hardcover was much harder than it would have been to just buy a softcover, cut off the binding, and replace it altogether. So anyone looking to replicate this book should strongly consider using a softcover instead.
PROCESS:
-Linen strips were first attached to the spine to give the appearance of stitching underneath, and a binder's board was cut to add extra definition to the front and back covers.
-I created some fake headbands by sewing them through paper and then gluing said paper down into the spine of the book, pressing firmly with a small bamboo stick.
-Pigskin leather (chosen for color and thinness) was then glued to the book and pressed down into the crevices with a bone folder.
-I used a Cricut machine to cut the title text on vinyl and then used said vinyl as a stencil for the book, painting in the text with Testor's metalic "Gold" enamel.
-The Auryn symbol and corner pieces were then attached with contact cement.
