Description asked me to put up this [link] old arse image so I thought I'd stick up a couple of its contempories.

These are REALLY old from back when I was first learning to use Photoshop7 in uni.

They're from a University project back in 2003.

I really had fun on this project. Note the little details such as Smee's tats on his knuckles and the Irish icons on his arms (Guinness and clover).

Hook's hook looked different on my original design. It was a kinda rusty blood red speckled black thing based on a dung beetle's hooked nose. I changed it because I saw an image of Jason Isaacs from the then future Peter Pan flick and liked his hook.

But that's all I changed even though they both have that similar look. My hook was based on a male model from some perfume advert in my girlfriend's magazines.

I even had the idea of his hook held on with a brace after researching amputations and prosthetic hooks. I always wondered how the hell they were held on. I mean, they don't nail it to the poor bugger. And a similar thing showed up in that film.

Barmy.

Update. Found the guy I based my Hook upon. Guy named David Gandy apparently [link]

I don't know why but he kind of looks like Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time.Β

I'm not familiar with that. It's a TV programme, isn't it? I drew these in 2003 so I think mine came first. Maybe they prefer their Capt Hook to be a bit more dashing matinΓ©e idol in look too. I always preferred Hook over Pan as a character, myself.

Same, but you know you're a grown up when you side with Hook instead of Pan.Β

There's no way I was a grown up when I was six years old. Because I'm still not thirty years later.

I REALLY love how you do contrasts in these pics - cute little ol Smee in the background with the bright green trees and those crazy mushrooms while in the foreground Hook is NOOOOOO HE'S STARING INTO YOUR SOUL OMFGASDFGHJKL

He's gobbing down a hole, there, that leads to Peter Pan's chimney. It's the part of the book where they find Peter's underground house.

Barrie is a really good writer. You have to read the book. The Disney crap doesn't know what it's talking about. Closest adaption to it is the Jason Isaacs film from 2003.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Counselor-Vidkun In reply to CarlPearce [2010-08-03 14:27:55 +0000 UTC]

haha okay. I'll have to read it.

Yes I believe yah. disney has a way with mixing the stories around. I can't really recall a story that has been told accurately through disney since cinderella.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CarlPearce In reply to Counselor-Vidkun [2010-08-03 15:19:14 +0000 UTC]

Even Cinderella was screwed up. Originally the sisters cut their toes and heels off with a knife to fit their feet in the slippers. The fact that they were filled with blood gave them away.

I love Grimm's fairy tales.

GhostPockets In reply to CarlPearce [2008-12-10 11:59:48 +0000 UTC]

I disagree. That was the greatest film of all time. Bad form Carl, bad form.

I'm loving how much thought went behind this. I haven't seen the Jason Isaacs version yet, but from the trailer I agree he looks the knees of a bee. Obviously the next movie version they make should be based off these designs though.

Has irish Smee just bin hurling up? Too much Guinness?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CarlPearce In reply to GhostPockets [2008-12-10 12:34:15 +0000 UTC]

Smee's gobbing down the hole into Pan's house. Can't take him anywhere, the dirty scrubber.

Nein! Nein! Dieses ist nicht recht! 'Hook' war eine Poopen-Scheißen

The Isaacs movie IS the knees of the bee. Indeed the knees of almost every insect going. Except the caterpillar's. They have knobbley knees.
