Hi. I am using PS CS5. I face a few problems. First of all, in Step 5, you said to make the Hue to 195. But PS gave an error saying the value rages between -180 to 180. But the biggest thing is, I followed everything you said, but the image remained as before - simple black and white [I used 180 in step 5]. I mean, there was no resultant change in the image.
Please can you help me?

Ok I got it. By default PS keeps the "Colorize" option unchecked. I had to check mark it to get the effects. Nice tutorial

Thank you thank you! I've always been wondering how those vintage photo touches are done. Now it's so easy! BTW this technique is very versatile since you can adjust the lightness and darkness of the overall image from the slider AND within the mask (by applying your Levels) to isolate the adjustment to specific tones.

I'm a bit confused- why don't you use a Gradiant Map? :S

freon76 In reply to GMMorris [2010-04-28 08:18:40 +0000 UTC]

I guess you won't have enough specific tonal control if you use gradient maps. Gradient maps are good for quick-fixes though.

I know this tutorial was made some time ago, but I just saw it and it was extremely helpful. I was watching CSI and I saw that the shadow were sort of blue and the highlights were sort of orange. I tried to achieve that effect but failed horribly. Now...think of the possibilities!

Thank you so much, dA needs people like you. Gosh, I really appreciate this.

hi there,

i've tried this with PS7, but i end up with a single toned image at the end. similar to yours, but without the blue. even using your b&w image above, i get the same result. am I missing something here? does this work with ps7? i consider myself a reasonably well educated user when it comes to Photoshop.

your help would be appreciated.

thanks, Andrew

Grymt, man bockar och bugar för generösiteten! Som Abacrombie skrev, man är för ung för det att ha lärt sig det där.

Sorry I didn't comment on this earlier... I only had time to fav it... this tutorial is the best PS one I've come across in ages... would you believe that until i saw this tutorial, I used to duplicate a the same layer, change the hue and then manually delete all areas that were not shadowy... the number of errors were much higher and I almost never got what I desired... this is such a relief.... my jaw almost hit the floor when I realized it could be done in this way... thank you very very much. You're a great artist and you're a generous one too.

Hade Bra!

Tackar, apply image hade jag ingen aning om

synd man är för ung för att ha hunnit med o leka i mörkrum, känns som man saknar en viktig grund där

Creativity is great, but plagiarism is faster!
Det är aldrig för sent att lära sig något nytt...det är bara att leta upp ett mörkrum

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Abacrombie In reply to carlzon [2006-02-03 16:11:52 +0000 UTC]
