yes but the term machine has quite the assortment of meanings , how did you even follow what you were doing while adding shadows , do you try finding a sense in what you are adding , like wires or what ever is on it's back or it's just something random, sorry if i'm too intrusive with my questions , I never understood how people create this level of detail, I barely can make a simple chain and have it co around a hand and still have a hard time with making the lines .

To tell you the truth, I don't like explaining my work too much, firstly because I'm not as good with words as I am with the pencil () and I feel I ruin it a little bit with each sentence, and secondly because I feel it's more interesting that way, since it's an aspect I enjoy when consuming art myself: I like the works that leave space for interpretation of the viewer. So basically, just feel free to fill the gaps yourself (if you think the work is interesting enough, of course).

Answering your other question: I did start with a clear structure for the figure as the foundation for the volume andΒ  the light and shadows. Only, I consealed a bit later, since I wanted the machine (a robot, in this case) to be merged with the background (hence "old") and have the characteristic I spoke in the last paragraph.

I guess you are right about the whole interpretation part, I see you have this theme of background merging present a lot in your works , I can read things like wisdom, age, power and resistance from this character, and yes I find this piece interesting enough (just in case you were wondering , but than again who cares what a noob like me has to say, lol, keep doing this great works maybe one day I'll have money to buy like a chip to implant in my brain so I can get how this things are done cuz God damn do I have a hard time with them ) Β

I do care what you have to say, that's half of the fun! To elaborate a bit more, are you familiar with the lore construction of Dark Souls? How the fans have an active role of completing the gaps intentionally left by its creator? Well, that's what I really like and try to emulate

I can point to different tutorials and books if you are interested in figuring out some of the technique behind all this stuff (which is a whole different topic), just send me a note dude.
