Description My roommate, whom I've grown to love very dearly left a couple days ago with her fiance to go be married and sealed in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. So I thought I'd make something for the happy couple. It was surreal watching her walk out the door for the last time, but I'm excited for the new chapter of life she's starting!

Glad I went and saw the lights on Saturday. It’ll be closed for two years.

This looks pretty amazing! I have no idea what this thing is, but I hope your friends had a great marriage and will spend a good life together.

Also reminds me, that I had a big cold for my own marriage (no thanks to my stupid co-worker) and had to take a whole lot of medicine to get to the day. It was really hard. But after that, I got healthy again. Powered through it in three days!

Haha, looks like someone beat me to the punch as far as explanations go! Busy couple of days for me. But yeah, this is a temple in the US, one of many special places of worship for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Inside, we perform certain sacred ordinances (or rituals/rites of passage, if that's easier to understand). I would go more in-depth for you, but the nature of these practices are considered so sacred that we don't talk about them outside of the temples themselves, so as to avoid making light of them. The basic idea is that, since "no unclean thing can dwell in the presence of God," these ordinances prepare us to be able to stand in His presence at the last day, and to achieve the highest degree of glory and happiness in His Kingdom. I concur with everything CherokeeCampFireGirl said in their comments. Temples are beautiful places full of peace and stillness, and whenever there's one open to the public for tours near you, I highly recommend checking it out, if for no other reason than to admire the gorgeous architecture and design.

Like in the other comment, Frankfurt is pretty close to me, so I can check out the temple there after it reopened.

When couples are married in the temple, they are sealed together for time and all eternity, not til death do you part.  All children born into that marriage are also sealed to their parents for eternity ("born in the covenant").  Couples not previously married in the temple can go to the temple and be sealed together for time and all eternity and their children can be sealed to them.  Temples are always open for public tours the month before they are dedicated.  Yesterday the Meridian, Idaho Temple was dedicated.  I got to help with the Open House this past month.  On Dec. 9 I am going there to see a couple have their children sealed to them for eternity.  Everyone is dressed in white and it's all so beautiful.  You can see a virtual tour of the Meridian Temple here www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx83JN… If you tell me where you live, I can tell you the nearest temple.  There are now over 150 temples around the world and more being built.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is trying to make the blessings of the temple available to as many people around the world as it can.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I live in Germany, in the south west to be precise.

There is an LDS temple in Frankfurt www.lds.org/temples/details/fr… .  It is closed for renovation, but if it was an extensive renovation it will be open to the public for tours before it is re-dedicated.  Keep your ears open for the news and you will be able to take a tour of it.
There is also an LDS temple in Freiberg www.lds.org/temples/details/fr… This was the first temple built in Germany.
And there is also a temple in Bern, Switzerland www.lds.org/temples/details/be… That might be close to you, also.
