Description
In a time of great grief, a horrible sickness swept through the clan, claiming the lives of many. At first, they thought only the weak were being affected; a simple case of natural selection. Kits, as well as elders were struck first. But then, warriors and apprentices were affected as well. Even their leader was brought down by the sickness and lost a life. It became not a matter of strength but rather, so it seemed, a matter of luck. And much to his despair, Adderstrike was not one of the lucky.aay so i haven't drawn these two in a while
Mapleflame mourns the death of his father. Though he wasn't treated "well" like a kind father would to a son, he still respected him greatly and took many of his father's lessons and morals to heart.
Sort of experimented with the shading here; i tried for a more paintery approach :> lemme know what you think

I love just the look of grief in poor little Mapleflame's face. It's very rare to see him actually showing some sort of emotion (Which I think says a lot about his character and how he was raised as a kit) I think my favorite part is the fact that he is mourning for the father he never really deserved, but he still loved him and cared about his well being. Just knowing how badly Mapleflame was treated by Adderstrike from previous pieces, it just makes this scene more sad then if he was just mourning for his father. I see Mapleflame being almost confused about his father dieing. Like "What? H-He's dead? No... He couldn't be." As he runs to the medicine cat dead, then just at the sight of his father motionless on the ground he just breaks down into tears. I love how well you did the painted style as well! You pulled it off amazing and I would love to see more in this paintry way! he art looks amazing, Keep up the good work!

So far I think favorite's actually Mapleflame! He's just such an interesting character. Just the face he doesn't show much emotion, it just makes me glad to see him show some emotion. I see him as almost the what Tigerstar would have been if he wasn't bad. I have a feeling that he is a brick with people he doesn't really like but turns into a big teddy bear when he loves someone/something

He just seems like a cat who would hide his feelings, but when he shows them, all of it comes out. Like say he has a child, he would just break and begin fawning over his child and his mate (Whomever that she-cat would be ) And he wouldn't be able to control himself. I think that may be what's happening in this picture here. I see him as that cat in the clan that everyone thinks like evil and hates everything, but his mate and close friends know he actually cares about his clan mates deeply, and that's why he works so hard.

The shading is very beautiful, I'd say your experiment was a success. I also just like the fact that you made Adderstrike look so frail and deteriorated in his final moments that it brings realism to the art piece. A lot of artists fail to include detail like that so it's a nice change.
Also, your little-written piece was a nice touch and beautifully written too. Good job.

You're very welcome. Can we expect to see Mapleflames mother one day? I for one am very curious to see what she-cat fell in love with Adderstrike, though I have a feeling she didn't live a long life.
