"I honestly don't really like Millie. She never had much appeal to me and I feel like she was too mean to Blossomfall, but I can understand why she was acting the way she was."or
"I don't think Millie deserves all the hate that she gets. She's done some bad things but everyone makes mistakes."
Ok cool.
"ANYONE WHO LIKES MILLIE IS FUCKING STUPID. CAN'T THEY SEE HOW MUCH OF A BITCH SHE WAS?"
or
"HOW FUCKING DARE YOU INSULT MILLIE. SHE'S FUCKING PERFECT. SHUT UP AND GO DIE."
sToP.
So recently I received some comments from Millie supporters and it encourged (for the lack of a better word lol) me to redraw this:
and rehash my opinions on Millie.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My opinions on Millie have changed a bit over the years; I don't hate her as much as I used to, but I still dislike her. [LENGTHY RANT AHEAD I'M SORRY; skip to the cut if you'd like]
My anger against her have fizzled because I've seen people bring up a few good points. She brought Graystripe back home. She was only worried about Briarlight because she had almost lost her two times before. She acted the way she did against Blossomfall because of her stress. I could go on.
I mean, compared to Rainflower, Millie is an absolute ANGEL.
Although I am completely aware of these points, personally, Millie has never been much of an appealing character. Here are my reasons :
First off, I will not use the argument "Millie stole Graystripe from Silverstream" because Silverstream has consented Graystripe's relationship with Millie and supports it. (and the fact that the Erins confirmed Graystripe will choose Silverstream when he enters StarClan is punishment enough for Millie lol... Graystripe and Millie's relationship in the novels wasn't that great anyways.)
Millie...just doesn't do much. I haven't read the books in a long time, but from what I recall, I don't think Millie has done anything significant after she brought Graystripe home (but even so, Graystripe just doesn't seem as fun of a character at all when he comes back, compared to the original series). The only think I remember her for is fussing constantly for her kits and sharing prey with Graystripe.
Millie coddles Briarlight excessively. Yes, I understand that she almost died twice, but doesn't that in a sense show Millie that she's a fighter? Jayfeather is there to take care of her and Briarlight has shown to be strong and independent.
There are other mothers in the series who have experienced traumatic events with their kits. Frostfur was the mother of Cinderpelt AND Brightheart, yet she didn't go hysterical and yell her other children. (YES, i get that Frostfur was born a clan cat and is used to violence and injuries, but she had two of her own kits mangled and defaced and still remained calm and loving to her other children.)
I've seen people say that Blossomfall is a bratty attention whore and that she's the bad guy. People compare her to Bumblestripe and say that he didn't care if Millie ignored him. I agree that she was acting a bit childish, but every cat has their individual personalities and what they deem "acceptable behavior" from their parents. It's like that when they were kits, Blossomfall grew accustomed to being pampered by her mother. That's why when Millie started ignoring her, Blossomfall felt neglected and jealous. Sometimes, you can't help those feelings. Blossomfall herself has said that she felt guilty for having them.
Then Blossomfall and Ivypool went into the tunnels. Blossomfall openly expresses "Will Millie miss me if I die down here?". She's truly insecure about how her mother views her. I don't think that this is "bratty". A lot of children who are ignored by their parents will doubt their love for them and make them feel neglected. When they return, Millie does something that I really don't like. She berates Blossomfall, confirming Blossomfall's fears and making her believe that Millie would not have missed her if she had died in the tunnels.
Millie says that what they did was irresponsible, which I agree to; they were wasting their time and were being dumb. But then she goes on to her to "grow up and become a proper warrior." Um. Proper warrior? Millie, who stays back in the clan and whines and cries and coddles Briarlight apparently know what it means to be a proper warrior. I don't remember seeing Millie go out and hunt for Briarlight, so why does she so strongly feel as though Blossomfall has to?
She goes on to say that "Briarlight would do anything to help feed the clan." Ok, way to go. Not only are you making Blossomfall feel like you wouldn't care if she died, but now you're comparing her to Briarlight. THE VERY THING THAT SHE IS FEELING GUILT ABOUT. that is one big no-no. (correct me if I'm wrong, I read this on the wiki) Brackenfur even approaches Millie and says that the important thing is that they're safe. She then proceeds to yell at him.
People have said "Well, Blossomfall should've confronted her mother about it." But after all those things that Millie has said, would Blossomfall really have felt secure enough to open up to her mom? Also, shouldn't Millie be the ADULT and talk to Blossomfall FIRST?
I don't really remember what time frame the above scene took place, but it also unnerves me. Blossomfall isn't the one who confronts her mother about the injury. She didn't want to take her mother's "attention". Hazeltail has to be the one who calls her and tells her "Hey, I think your daughter's sick." Millie then waves her of in a very "I DON'T GIVE A SHIT" way and says "What? She's fine. I have to go check on Briarlight." Really? Briarlight can live a five minutes without your attention. What ticks me off is that Millie doesn't even take a second to walk over and ask what's wrong.
tbh, I would like Millie a lot more if the Erins had included some sort of scene where she and Blossomfall console in eachother and apologize. But sadly it never happened. Afterwards, Millie just seemed indifferent to the whole situation.
I guess all of my reasons above are invalid if you play the "she was hysterical" card, but eh, those who defend Millie would have found a way to counter me anyways.
tl,dr; I have no doubt in my mind that Millie loves her kits. I know she does. She's not a terrible mother, but for the reasons above she's certainly not one of the best either. I can understand why people like her and that's totally ok! I just personally am not fond of her.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Point is, people who are allowed to love Millie have all the right to. They are allowed to defend her and admire her. Likewise, people who dislike Millie are entitled to their opinion and are allowed to express why.
What is not ok is when you get disrespectful and personal about it. Do not insult someone personally because of their preference or dislike for a character. Do not wish death upon them. Do not get overly passionate about trying to change someone's mind about a character. Do not get butthurt over FICTIONAL CATS.
I'm actually thinking about closing the comments on the old drawing. I've looked through them the other day and it's a bit of a mess. x'D
Feel free to leave your opinions, but please be tasteful and respectful. 'preciate it.
aa well i wasted 45 minutes typing that and now im tired. sorry if there are grammar/spelling mistakes anywhere i will proofread later.

For me my opinion on Millie depends on the series/arch, as I think after Briarlight's accident she became a totally different cat. In The Power of Three Millie was a strong, serious, open-minded and respectable character, but in The Omen of the Stars she became weak-willed, narrow-minded and hypocritical as she became obsessed with Briarlight. Yeah, it sucks that one of your kits doesn't get to live the life you hoped for them, but get a hold of yourself.

I never even thought about comparing her to Rainflower. But, man, now that I do? Millie, I love you! I honestly loved Millie until I took a step back and realized what was happening. Now... I don't appreciate her much at all. She's a good mother... if we don't take Blossomfall into account. So, yeah. I am honestly torn.

I hate Assfur way more...
But, the whole "real warrior" argument was shitty of her. She kept the name of Millie. MILLIE
Plus, she's a well, able bodied cat, and she does less for the clan then Brightheart
So I can't help but wish somebody had given her the reality check that Blossomfall does way more then Millie

What's wrong with Millie not changing her name? She's not the only one. Boulder and Daisy kept their names, and many SkyClan cats keep their names as their prefixes. And I doubt they're the only ones, considering the Clans' long history.
Millie loved her twolegs. They were her Clan. Her name means something to her. Not changing it isn't hurting anycat or stopping her from being loyal to her new Clan. If you lost your pet or another family member, wouldn't you keep a few pictures or something of them near? Millie can't have pictures, or even her collar. She only has her name.
Besides, I think Millie is a much better name than Foxheart, Flailfoot, or Heavystep.

Nothings wrong with keeping the name, but I feel like it undermines her right to have a "true warrior" rant.
Frankly, the name is a moot point next to the major one of "how little she does for the clan, despite judging her child."
But if you must know why it was a point for me, it seems a little silly.
Firestar left his two legs too, but I have no doubt he cared for them at least a little. But he still changed his name anyway.
Besides, Skyclan is under a completely different circumstance, and a lot of them did have their names changed. Prefixes or no prefixes, they at least got a suitable naming.
Besides, with the whole "name to remember her two legs argument" is just undermining her loyalty to the clan. Whatever happened to "not living with a paw in each world"?
And Daisy and Boulder get the grace of at least sounding like a normal name. But, personally, I wouldn't bring up Daisy, since she also (at least from what I can recall)
does next to nothing for the clan.
Besides, I think that Foxheart and Heavystep are nice names
But thats simply my opinion on the matter.

I know, I was just wondering why people think it's so horrible Millie didn't change her name. I agree with you on the other point.
Firestar was about five moons old when he joined ThunderClan. Since kittens are adopted at twelve weeks, the most time Firestar spent with his twolegs was about 3 moons. He was young and adaptable. He didn't love his twolegs as much as Millie did, nor did he have as many memories. Same with Russetfur, Sparrowpelt, and Cherrytail. They were very young too.
Graystripe was about 3-4 years old when he went missing. Millie must be a little younger than him, because she's not an elder yet. EDIT: She's an elder in The Apprentice's Quest.
So she must have spent at least 2-3 years with her twolegs, which is a long time for a cat. Plenty of time to get really attached. Millie grew up with her twolegs, played with them, cared for them, and they cared for her. They were her little Clan. Why wouldn't she want to remember them?
How does keeping her name make her disloyal? It doesn't stop her from hunting and fighting. It doesn't make her give away Clan secrets. Living in a paw in each world would be like the SkyClan day-warriors, or what Cloudpaw was trying to do. It's not like Millie visits her twolegs, or lives with them during the winter. She gave them up completely.
Daisy is a queen who cares for kits, when there are battles, she fights, and when there are no kits, she does work around the camp. She does plenty. I can think of five kits that could've starved without her.
I meant Foxheart and Heavystep sounded like insults. Foxheart would be a nice name, if it hadn't been the equivalent of a curse word. Heavystep sounds like an insult. Like they're calling him fat or clumsy.

Brightheart is honestly probably one of the more helpful cats in the clan. The only ones more useful in my opinion are the leader, deputy and medicine cats(obviously) and Thornclaw and Cloudtail(the go to senior warriors). Sure, she didn't/hasn't been able to really mentor any apprentices, but despite her injury she is still a good warrior and hunter, plus I honestly think she knows enough about healing to be able to be medicine cat if she had to. At the very least she has the skills of an apprentice of several moons, and any knowledge she may be lacking she could learn from StarClan like Echosong did.

I'm kinda indifferent about Millie, she's not my favorite nor is she my least favorite. She's kinda in the middle. I can see why people would hate her though, but I just think to myself that these are characters, they aren't real and there is no reason to get so angry about someone else's opinion.

I'm now neutral about Millie. On one hand, I didn't like how she ignored her other kits for Briarlight (heck, even Briarlight said that she didn't need Millie hovering over her 24-7). On the other hand, she's proven to be a good warrior, and to me, it doesn't matter where she's from or what name she has. Even though I wish she could've tried using a new Clan name, she's perfect the way she is. Other than that, I'm neutral about her.
By the way, awesome artwork as usual.

What angers me most about the "become a proper warrior" thing, is that she is SUPPOSED to be a warrior but i feel like she barely ever went out of hunting parties, she REFUSED her warrior name (which should be given to a "PROPER" warrior) and all she did was mope around and complain about Briarlight, i get that she helped in the nursery but by the time you have a bunch of kits in there with plenty of queens not to mention ferncloud they dont need the help. I get that she was all stressed out because briarlights injury but like you said briarlight has plainly proved by getting away from death 2 times that she can be strong and independent, also you really dont see graystripe her mate acting batshit (excuse the language) over briarlight and he's not someone who just doesn't care about the ones he loves so its not like thats the reason why, I also feel like millies neglect to blossomfall may have made blossomfall resent briarlight I'm not completely sure because i havent read the books in a while but i dont think briarlights siblings ever visited her besides once or twice i could rant for hours over millie and if you like her thats perfectly fine with me this is just what i think so..
besides that awesome drawing! you've improved so much and I think its amazing!
