I haven't read the book, but I have heard about it a bit.....Does Mapleshade drown her kits, and if that is true, is this the scene?

Yeah, then she goes to RiverClan asking or shelter cuz her clan threw her out since she had a forbidden romance. And they give her one night, find the drowned kits, and then her stupid mate says he made a mistake and pretty much treats her with so much disrespect and anger, she feels she has to avenge the kits ^^

I know it's older/ancient ThunderClan, like the US in the 50's/60's with segregation and harsher rules, but to exile kits?

You're right. Everyone in the book were bums. But I think they were such jerks because Appledusk "killed" THE leader's son, Birchface. Everyone was super pissed about that. And then Mapleshade allowed everyone to believe that the dead son had left kits for the clan when infact those were the kits to the killer, the killer of the beloved Birchface.
I'm not saying what they did was right, I'm saying I understand. The kits were spawn of the devil and Mapleshade was a HUGE traitor. To them, it be like marrying the man who killed your cousin or sister. Quite frankly, they're lucky the kits weren't just killed by Thunderclan.
Sorry to butt in, but I thought I'd share my opinion of it. I hope it doesn't bother anyone?

Yeah, but it was a total accident as well. He fell into the river I think and an apprentice tried to save him, but also died in the process. Tough day for TC.Β
Yeah, it makes a little bit more sense when you pull it all together. Now you just have to wonder why Reedshine and the rest weren't sent to the Darkforest. It's silly that a cat has to directly do evil to go to cat hell.

hmm i never thought about it being like the 50's/60's that's actually an interesting point you have there :00 but even so, i don't recall the characters in, for instance, code of the clans being this harsh? like some of those short stories had to have taken place before mapleshade's vengeance?
and yeah, idk they were all huge assholes in that book ;_ ;

it's also pretty confusing regarding the fact that there was a darkstar and reedshine in code of the clans as well (code 3)
and since one of apple/reed's kits is crooked's grandparent, that would only be 2/3 generations, but then there's the next 12 codes
but hmm, maybe the code aren't all in order, for instance code 2, I believe had dappletail and white-eye, code 12 had tigerkit, and code 15 had lionpaw/heart and pinestar
it's just really confusing imo

i think they are in order? some of the codes had duel stories that related to more present-times (like the tigerkit/dappletail and white-eye ones) but honestly i don't know anymore the Erins are notorious for their inconsistencies LOL

BUT
You can't blame her for being so murderous, can you? I mean she loved her kits no matter what, and then she had to take them away from her home, where SHE and HER KITS were born. She had to take them to their father's home, which drowned them. And figuring out that, hey, some cat from my former clan WATCHED them and didn't help would only make it worse.
I mean I don't blame her for taking 'revenge'. To be honest I dunno if I'd call it Revenge, it was more just her wanting to Avenge her kits.

I feel so bad for Mapleshade....
I personally liked this book quite a lot. The ending was something that upset me. I disagree with her being sent to the Dark Forest. All she did was go crazy with grief. And kill three cats. But that was BECAUSE of the grief. (This story is totally not one of my favorites because of the dark deaths. Yep. Totally). Anyways, this scene is amzing, and I love the way cat's eyes glow and the kits look so concerned and confused.

Perhaps you can save up money? If not you can always ask a parent or guardian (or older sibling who has a job) for some sort of special holiday. It can be found in the three book collection titled Shadows of the Flans, which also includes Ravenpaw's Path and Goosefeather's Curse. If none of these options work you candor row it or just wait. And wait. Waiting often reveals the best things in life. Surprisingly.
