Description

Megan from My Little Pony. The internet seems to have very mixed feelings about her, or the need to "update" her to meet FiM's "standards" but I like her as she is. Sure, she's kinda terrible, but so was the entire 80's pony cartoon.

Unless your a hardcore fan, you also remember Danny and Molly. No, I did not remember them as I wasn't even born yet. I just looked at some trivia bits on the old HUB website. I AM NOT A BRONY!

I think you mean "if," not "unless." "Unless" would mean hardcore fans wouldn't remember them

Once upon a time, in the not-so magical land of Kansas, lived a girl named Megan. She was kind, certainly a little headstrong and wilful, but no-one ever doubted the goodness of her heart and spirit. All in all, she was a fairly normal girl for her time and place.

Then, one day, when she was out riding her horse, TJ, a pink pony with wings and the symbol of a double indigo lightning bolt on its flank dropped out of the sky before her. This pony, who told her that her name was 'Firefly' and that she was looking for a hero to save her people, was a herald of a total change to Megan's life. Never again would she be 'normal'. It was the start of an adventure that would carry her, her sister Molly and her brother Danny across the barriers of Β time and space through thousands of years and to a destiny none of them could even imagine.

Well, if that isn't enough for you...

This is very much a 'Disney'-style portrait. Because of that, it falls outside of what I suppose you could call the 'FiM' house-style but also the G1 house-style, which owed a lot more, stylistically and technically, to the mass-produced Hanna-Barbara's cartoons of the late 1970s.

I think that this captures the essence of the character - cheerful and essentially positive in nature. In many ways, maternal too (the G1 ponies were tiresomely childish and needed a maternal/organising figure).

Overall? I don't think you can call this portrait 'terrible'. It may not fit easily in with either generation's art style but it is a decent representation of the character and thus would be instantly recognisable to her fans. That's a key for fanart, by the way - I'm sure you're well aware how unrecognisable some fan-artists seem to feel free to make their subjects.

Satisfied now?

very nice Megan fanart
I actually was ok with her in the show, though I doubt it would work in FiM

It might but only if they found just the right way to include her. Me? I'd put her in a flashback as a certain somebody that Celestia and Luna knew when they were young... a friend of Starswirl's from far-off lands who... just stopped coming one day.

Yeah, that would actually be a nice little shoutout to the fans of G1.
We have Equestria Girls so we can imagine how the human model would look like.

As a fun fact, I remember it was stated in the G1 period (I think it was in a comic book?) that Ponyland
was on the other end of the rainbow from the human world. Well...we have a lot of rainbows in this show...

As well as a certain purple alicorn who likes playing with magics that she doesn't really understand. For doing a crossover with G1 it's pretty much a winning combination!
