************ UPDATE*******************
Wow, a DD? Thank you so much AngelYarn for suggesting and to Elandria for featuring
And thank you everyone for your kind and in some cases, not so kind words
..........................................
Here is the long awaited Art Nouveau Tutorial for my artwork Iris that has taken me almost a good week to do Sorry guys, there won't be many tutorials, they are a lot of work and makes me appreciate all the artists who donate their time and effort to do these so much more!
Ok before you start, all stock images in the tutorial is from CAStock and from almudena-stock if you want to get the exact ones. Here are the thumbs for them:
Also this is a tutorial that assumes that you have some basic knowledge of Photoshop and how it works, and how to work in layers. I assume you have some vague concept at least about how to cut things out and how to use masks. If you don't know how to do any of these things, you need to find some beginner tutorials in Photoshop before you start or you'll get lost pretty easy.
I used Photoshop CS5, but any photoshop version should be able to do most of the commands in this tutorial.
If you come across something that is very unclear or misspelled, please inform me and i'll try to correct it.
Thank you to for the lovely border I used in the design of the tutorial itself, and many thanks to for the beautiful model I used.
Hope you enjoy!!
Oh, and IF you make an artwork pretty much identical to the one in this tutorial (meaning using the stock i did for the tut) you need to credit me in the description of it when you upload it. If you make an art nouveau piece with completely different stock, look and feel you don't have to credit unless you want to. And don't forget to ALWAYS credit the stock owners you used and follow their individual rules!

Hi Cathrine, I just finished my 1st art nouveau style artwork using your tutorial as a guide.
[link]
I havnt worked in photoshop since 2009 after I retired early from a hectic 20 years as a graphic designer in newspaper industry. I think I was just burnt-out.
I always loved art nouveau and was inspired to try it after finding your tutorial during a google search.
I had to work with the Adobe help centre website open as I forgot where all the functions were!
Anyway, thanks again

Lovely tutorial...
I'm trying something new before I leave dA... Whether it works or not depends on whether I stay or go.
This is perfect for me, however, I'm having trouble creating the circle borders that go behind the model...
Could you perhaps note me, or explain to me in a little more detail as to how you accurately create the circle border? I'm using the vector tool and everything but with little or no success.

Thank you I'm not sure just which part you mean you're having trouble with? Doing the actual circle lines? Building up the smaller circles in it? Colouring it? If you give me a bit more detail I can try and help

Making the smaller circle, and making it fit accurately in the bigger one to create the boarder. The smaller circles to fit inside the boarder I can do no problem.

The best tip I have is to copy your big circle layer (click on it in the layer tabs and then press ctrl + j ) then drag the new circle down a bit in size holding shift while dragging it (so it holds its symmetrical shape). Then just drag the whole circle left or right up or down to sit inside the bigger circle. The inner circle needs to almost touch the bottom middle of the bigger circle to get that moon like shape. Once bot circles are positioned so they create a moon shape you can mark them both (hold ctrl while clikcing on them in the layer tab) and merge them into one layer by pressing ctrl + e. You now have a circle border as one shape in one layer. Good luck!
