So this is my first tutorial.I did a basic watercolor tutorial covering eyes, hair, and skin.
I hope this is some help to people who are wanting to learn or become better at watercolors. I think it is harder to learn from a step by step guide than it would be if I were able to do a video or something, but I tried to include as much information as I could about the technique.

I am also going to be doing an Advanced tutorial, with a much more complicated image and a lot more steps lol

i hope its helpful. i dont actually work this way anymore, but for a 'beginngers' guide to doing skin i still think it a good starting place - when i started i didn't know where to begin!

Do you "stretch" the paper before you start painting on it or do you paint dry enough that it doesn't warp? In art class I was taught to paint using a lot of water (which took forever to do) but it always caused my paper to warp no matter how I prepped it. The warping drives me crazy because I'm obsessed with good craftsmanship and then the whole painting is ruined for me. What sort of preparations do you do if any at all?

I use artists tape to tape it to a masonite board. you can then wet the whole paper, and wait for it to dry if you are going to be using a lot of water that will help keep warping down. or, you can just paint directly onto it. with it taped to the board it will dry almost entirely flat. I hardly ever have any warping (I hate it too)
I also use thick paper as that helps. I dont ever use less that 120lb and usually use 140lb.

very clear tutorial, even though your font size is a bit small. A difference in what I do with watercolors is using less water for more powerful colors... I have been told I do not paint with watercolors "watercolor-y" environment . I use the tracing method as well, but I trace with watercolor pencils in the colors of my intended painting, so that absolutely nothing shows. I found that even thorough erasing where there is light colors did not work for me satisfactorily.

In re-reading your tutorial I also like that you included having two water bowls. I also find that useful - otherwise everything goes muddy. I prefer using the watercolor pencils for tracing because with graphite I like laying down a nice dark line- even when I am trying not to - and the pencils I prefer usually end up scratching the surface of nice watercolor papers so it makes the colors bleed a bit there, even after erased. The watercolor pencil erases with water or with overlay of the same color
