Description
Things that have influenced me or are still influencing me.Don Bluth: I remember watching lots of Don Bluth films as a kid. These days I don't feel quite the same about them (Troll in Central Park, etc), but I'll always remember the beautiful animation and storytelling in films like Secret of NIMH- which is why I used a screenshot from that particular movie. It holds a lot of significance to me. I actually cried while looking up a screenshot. It reminds me a lot of my mom. She loved it when I'd draw Ms Brisby. Getting weepy again now, even...
Science Fiction: I love SciFi. And monster movies, for that matter. The bizarre and awesome creatures that show up in these kinds of movies are like taffy for my brain.
Nova LeBeouf, aka Kichigai: When I first got on the internet so many years ago I found myself at an Oekaki run by Nova. I had a lot of good times there, and Nova is still a friend and a huge influence on my art. She's always pushing me to improve, and I appreciate every bit of it.
NiGHTS into Dreams: I actually got into NiGHTS because of Kichi. I ... don't know how I feel about NiGHTS exactly these days, but I remember a lot of time spent drawing NiGHTS related things. Those years were filled with a lot of good times and a lot of bad times... (Image drawn by Nova herself)
Digimon: I don't know entirely what to say about it this. I remember sitting in my room in Japan doodling up my own Digimon and their digivolutions. Good times. I stopped watching after the second season.
Germany: ... I... don't know entirely what to say about this one either. I lived here during the early portion of my life. I remember watching things like the Smurfs on my Grandpa's little TV, etc. I also remember covering my Uncle entirely in marker scribbles. Good times, again!
Pokemon: The closest thing I ever got to being 'in' to anime. I really got into it when I was living in Japan, and I spent a lot of time drawing Pikachu, Mew, Pidgeotto (not sure why that one exactly), and the legendary birds. I had to add this after finding an ancient drawing book filled with badly drawn pokemon.
Japan: Okinawa, actually, to be precise. I miss the place a lot. It was a beautiful place packed to the brim with culture. The image here is of the main street off of Gate 1. Which ... prolli doesn't mean anything to anyone. Japan was sort of where I had my first large improvement in my art.
Dinosaurs: The first things I drew! I was a total dinosaur nut as a kid, drawing them all the time. For awhile I thought that when I grew up I'd be a paleontologist. (Painting by Todd Marshall)
Nature: I love nature. Like science fiction, it's full of absolutely awesome things. Mostly, however, I love the more obscure creatures... they're so much more beautiful and interesting than the big charismatic animals like... say, wolves (... I hate wolves. Sorry.) (Clione photograph taken by Christian Skauge)
Sonic: Sonic in general, really, but the comics had a huge impact on me, and still do. I specifically picked the cover to this issue because it was the first Sonic comic I ever got. The second being the issue with "Steel Belted Sally"...

Wow, you did a great job with this meme! I haven't seen many that incorporate places, artists, movies, comics, and aspects of nature all together like this... do you have any advice for anyone else trying this meme? Because I have no idea how I'm going to be able to narrow things down for me, myself!

Ah, I love Don Bluth movies, even if his later ones weren't as good as his earlier ones. (Still, as you say I definately agree the animation, and drawing style they had were awesome.)
Pretty cool to hear you lived in Japan, my Dad used to live there. (He also lived in England for awhile, as well.)

Where would so many American illustrators be today without Don Bluth? After Disney he has to single-handedly be the greatest influence upon domestic animation and cartooning. Him, Dinosaurs, and Sonic I certainly share in my influences with you.
It's always good to learn what inspires and motivates artists, especially the ones I look up to. Apparently you picked just the right combination to equal incredible talent.

A sea angel!
It's a seasnail without a shell.
It's head opens up to a bunch of tentacles! JUST LIKE RE4.
