Description
Second self portrait I've done since going to college. The first one I did was 2 years ago, freshman year and I can safely say that this one turned out way better. I'm really proud of it. It doesn't look exactly like me but I put so much effort into it, I couldn't not like it. It's the first time I've never used a photo reference of myself and really analyzed my facial features for what they are.Subject represents an event in my life 2 years ago as well as some aspects of my life as it is now.
Process included: braking a mirror, gluing the pieces together to make a collage and then using it to paint my portrait.
Oils on canvas

It does sound like a lot of effort and work, but it really pays off in how detailed and lifelike it is. Hard to tell if it's a drawing or a picture. Nice job.

It definitely took me a long time, and if I had longer to work on it I certainly would. The biggest lesson I got from it was to be patient and really analyze my face....that and how to hold broken glass without mortally wounding myself XD

it seems blue-y-er than usual? but I still love it!

Yeah I'm not sure why but my camera is giving everything a blue tint, so when I adjust the levels of the picture, all the blues become super saturated. Do you think it's worth going back and desaturating it or something? and thanks
