Description A complete set of artwork, in full color, for the playing pieces used in Sun and Moon. The sheet size is US letter (8.5 inches by 11 inches); the art is designed for gluing to one-inch disks such as backgammon pieces.

Suggestions for other game-piece formats are welcome.

(I apologize for the bizarre category, but Deviantart steadfastly ignores the existence of any game other than digital games.)

I can see this being a marble game like Chinese Chequers.

Celestia-White/Pearl/Gold

S Earth- Orange

S Pegasus- Yellow

S Unicorn- Red

Luna-Black/Midnight/Silver

M Earth- Blue

M Pegasus- Purple

M Unicorn- Green

This would be for a carved version.

Okay, I played this game with my brother, and I must say it is pretty cool to play. The match resulted in a draw however, due to a few concerns I'd like to point out.

• Unicorns are nearly impossible to capture. The fact that they can snipe enemies without moving means that they cannot be threatened unless you make a mistake as a player. One of the other possibilities to capture Unicorns is by moving your Princess into a heavenly body that is connected to the star of the sniping Unicorn, as Unicorns can't hit targets on heavenly bodies. This has its own problems, which I will address next.
• Moving your Princess into a heavenly body is not really a wise plan. You have to move the Princess away next turn, so the enemy player has 1 turn to do whatever he or she wants. This is this by the way the last way to capture a Unicorn, so a player will not risk this, ever.
• The board is to small for troop movement, or you start with too many soldiers.
• You can virtually threaten each spot in the Twilight Zone with Unicorns and your Princess. This eliminates all possibilities to infiltrate the enemy Firmament.
• As Princesses can be Unicorns as well, it is near impossible to banish them. Whenever a soldier comes within threatening range, you can just snipe them away.
• Pegasi lack tactical abilities. They can fly over a piece, sure, but an Earth Pony can most of the times do the same by just moving through a weird angle.

My suggestions:
• Start with only 2 Unicorns. With only 2 of them, the amount of stars you threaten are limited.
• Add a rule that a Princess cannot use her Unicorn power to snipe an enemy if that enemy is covered. This rule may already be in place depending how you interpret the rules, as capturing a covered enemy would not be considered a legal move if she acted like an Earth Pony or a Pegasus.
• Add something to the Pegasi, like that they still can capture an enemy pony after flying over one playing piece. Or that they can move (one) additional star(s) after reaching the Twilight Zone. Or that they can fly over heavenly bodies. Whichever is fine.

Thanks for reading my review. I will look at your different ideas later.

You’ve reinforced most of the difficulties pointed out by others. Please do check out my latest journal posting for some proposed changes to address these problems—and I plan to post a round-up later in the evening that will gather the most promising ideas and suggestions.

He probably means that the sundisks seem to rotate if you stare at them. It's hypnotizing.

On a side note, this game seems interesting! I will try it out later with my brother and see if I can provide any constructive feedback. I can't really judge a game properly without playing it, right?

In the words of Apple Bloom: “Ooooh, that makes much more sense!”

Indeed! If you do come up with anything I’d be pleased to hear it. See if you can test out the different ideas I’ve posted, too; I’d like to get cross-checks on them.
