Description Flying Garbage

My father never had
much patience
for pigeons. Flying rats.
Rats with wings; the connoisseurs of debris.
Whole flocks of them
eat the campus clean
While students congregate
to eat fried fat.
It’s not that they’re ugly birds…
But where would they be
without cities?
Cities that bleed garbage made by men.
(And women, and babies, and cats.)
The dumb birds strip the
Earth bare.
And then fly on to browner sidewalks.

... Nice poem, I love the imagery, and pidgeons are very dumb birds, right up there with seagulls. ; Although this makes me feel guilty for not posting at Damn Pens in forever... It's not like I have a lack of stuff to put up... ._.

Maybe expand it a bit - your initial judgement of the birds seems to get real harsh at the end without a bridge there to the bleeding city and bare earth imagery.

I do like the browner sidewalks line - little things like that really spice your work up, juxtaposition and all
