Sandrilene fa Toren, from Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic books. Sandry's magic is with thread, and when she is locked inside a hidden room with a dying lamp, she braids her embroidery silk with light. It is her first semi-conscious use of magic.I'd forgotten how nice it is to go into paintchat. Still don't know a good oekaki place, but this is good, too. I'd be happier with this if I knew how to shade in paintchat. I like my lines, but not so much my color.

Tamora Pierce is one of the cornerstones of my teen years. This is absolutely one of my favorite scenes.

The hair was a semi-new thing. It started shaping itself with the hair, really. 
It makes me sad that I've outgrown her writing style... but I still love Tamora Pierce's books and I'm never going to regret it. Alanna is still my absolute fave. :-D

True that... True that. She has a new book out about Alanna's daughter now. I'm rather curious how it'll turn out. And oh yeah... o_O I can't believe I didn't notice that the light source seemed a bit random.
X3 You were lucky with that book deal! I only have one of the books for that series because my library didn't have that book when I looked for it. Yeah, it's strange how much you miss when you reread things. -_-; I reread Winnie the Pooh, Pinnochio, and other children's tales. I never realized how people would look at the the original content as violent these days. Supposedly, Christopher Robin accidentally shot Pooh with a rifle and Pinnochio was hanged by his neck on a tree and left to die (Grimm Fairy tales...well, that's pretty self-explanatory.) You miss can miss out the a lot of hidden meanings that only adults can understand when you're a child.
Another note...have you noticed that Tamora Pierce likes to pair up her main characters with people that are a LOT older than her? I'm kinda wondering about that right now....

O_o Yeah, I've noticed that... The George/Alanna thing is 7 years, which isn't really SO bad... when compared to Daine and Numair. Who are, like, 15 years apart, or something heinous. *dodges Numair-adoring friend*
I have the first of that new series- it's sort of sub-par and predictable. I'm pissed because it looks like her daughter is going to wind up with this guy who the Trickster god (remember him with the crooked smile?) turned from a crow into a boy to help her out. I don't like him. The crow, I mean. See? Predictable. I'm hoping the second is better.
Man, I reread Harry Potter 1 & 2 for the first time last week and even that made me sit up a bit. I totally breezed past a lot of details. And I went looking for originals of fairy tales... which is really grisly. The Brothers Grimm were aptly named. I mean, I knew the story of the girl with the dancing shoes that wouldn't stop who had to cut off her feet, but I swear they added violence to their stories like they had a quota to meet. In Snow White or Cinderella (I think) at the end, everything is fine and dandy and she's off to marry her prince, but her evil step-mother is pissy and she makes a fuss and birds come and peck out her eyes. Like, WHY!? It was FINE. LEAVE IT. But, no, we have to have the death and maiming. With crows.
I remember Christopher Robin shooting Pooh... it WAS an accident, though...
Try watching old kids movies too... I can't wait for kids who watched Shrek at age three to rewatch it at 13 and go "OH MY GOOOOOOD they put THAT in there?!" XD

I saw Adams Family Values randomly on TV and noticed lots of things I never understood when I watched it as a child. I had no idea what "love-making" was. I had no idea about why the heck Wednesday was talking about when she was explaining the bleak future of Native Americans. (It was rather violent when she and the rest of the kids burned the play sets and a prissy girl at a stake.) I also had no idea what homocide was either. X3 Oh yeah, that would be awesome to see how kids will react when they re-watch Shrek in the far future.

LOL I remember watching that a few years ago. I was pretty young the first time we saw it... and WOAAAAAAH. XD I think I'd find it a LOT funnier now than I did then!
