Description
Like the preceding pictures in my gallery, this is a trace of lines by another artist. This time, the artist is KittyHawk, author of the webcomic Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki . She didn't post the sketch on deviantArt. I thought it was on her blog somewhere, but I can't find it. Maybe it was from her FaceBook page ? I wasn't the one who commissioned it; I know I found it on one of her sites somewhere...Be warned, both her blog and webcomic occasionally breach mature topics, which I'm certain is a major concern for anybody looking at this picture.
Most of the other pics by KittyHawk I've done have been sketches for her webcomic. Since these characters are Japanese, they have pale complexions and blond hair, as is common in Japan in my understanding. To add a bit of variety to my gallery, I decided to give this character brown hair and a slightly more swarthy complexion.
What I had forgotten to account for is the fact that I usually put the sketch in its own layer on top of the image, with the blend mode set to "Multiply". This basically makes brightness into transparency, with white being perfectly transparent and black being perfectly opaque. Unfortunately, while this lets me see the sketch very easily when it's over bright colors, it made it quite difficult to see the sketch over the top of the character's hair once it started getting long. If I were a professional artist, I'd probably come up with/look up a clever technique for overlaying a sketch over dark colors; as it is, I think I'll just stick mostly to fair-skinned blond-haired Japanese people for the foreseeable future.
Also in the foreseeable future, I probably won't be posting much, since I start a new job next Monday. I'll either be spending most of my time working hard, or else I'll be reveling in the decadence I can buy with my newfound income stream.
As with the other traces in my gallery, the software used is Inkscape , an open-source vector graphics program. If you click the "Download" button to the right of the upper-right corner of the picture, you can get the source file in .svg format. Note that, although Inkscape uses a graphical interface, .svg data is stored as an XML document, and thus may not display as a picture on your browser. It might not display correctly anyway, as the format is not widely adopted. As such, not all of its features are uniformly implemented by all viewers. In particular, the blur effect I use on the motion lines and on the shading in the last panel don't often render correctly.

Cool, a comment from CrazyCow! Glad you like it!
It's hard to choose a single character, but I have to go with the title character, Yuuki.

The coloring is very nice, but i also got a laugh out of the way panel 3 accentuates the "FREE" on her shirt. I can almost hear a faint pair of voices in the distance shouting "we're free!"

How does something like this have so many views with one additional comment!? Even if you only colored this, it's still a good job.
