Description
I designed this coin to feature the Hebrew language and also to show that religion and science can go together. The coin is two inches in diameter. The text is from the book of Job in the bible, chapter 28. One line reads: "They (humans) search the sources of the rivers and bring hidden things to light". The front side of the coin shows the current best idea of what science believes the Milky Way galaxy looks like. The back side of the coin shows 11 items that were unknown to humanity until science (and math) brought them to light:
Standard model of particle physics
Quark model of the proton
Telescope
Magnetic field lines around the Earth
A macrophage
Benzene molecule
Golden spiral
Cell division (mitosis)
Stellated dodecahedron
Interference pattern

The text on the coin in both Hebrew and English is:
Iron is taken from the earth and copper is smelted from ore. Mortals put an end to the darkness. They search out the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness. They search the sources of the rivers and bring hidden things to light. But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? No mortal . . . "

I woke up this morning with a message that I had been chosen for a daily deviation and I really didn't know what that meant. It turns out to be quite an honor. I'm humbled.

I like the whole artwork aspect of it. This looks like hard work! But science and religion are separate. That's that.

This is absolutely incredible. The detail you've put into this (and so small) is really, really impressive. I'm personally taken by how you've ordered the text, by reading outwards from the center, as opposed to inwards from the edge. I take it that is is the original coin? The finish on this one seems to be more vibrant than those in your store, ot was it photographed under a different light? The metallic green compliments the copper very, very nicely. This is a lovely piece of craftsmanship.

I am not a professional photographer by any means, so all of my pictures are trial and error. What I have discovered is that the coin's appearance can vary wildly based on light and other factors. This picture and the ones in my store were taken under different light and different camera settings. I think that the pictures in my store were taken with diffused sunlight, which I find gives the best overall results. This particular picture was taken with two 100 watt incandescent bulbs. I think that it gave a more glowing look.
That being said, another difference is the type of enamel (color) I used. I was very unhappy with the sloppy color on this coin. I will admit that it looks good here, but in your hand, the coin looked terrible. In the future, I may make another attempt at getting this effect without the color running all over the place.

You should make another one of these with gibberish text and just toss it into a ravine near gobekli tepe or something.
Might confuse the hell out of somebody in 200 years.
Fantastic work, and very original design!

this is a beautiful piece of work, and i thank you for sharing it with the rest of the masses here on DA. in general do you sculpt in clay or wax and then do kind of a lost wax casting of your pieces so you can make more than one? i know there's a few different ways out there, just a general inquire. thank you again

The designs are made using Coreldraw and the dies are made using a computer controlled router. The coins are stamped into metal and colored using either epoxy (inexpensive, but not very durable), or fused glass (more expensive but very durable).

It's a wonderful coin. The first thought I had when I looked at it was that it could easily be used as galactic currency. It honestly looks like an ancient artifact left by aliens, which is what I really like about it!
