Description
This is the rough sketch for theme 2 of 100 theme challenge by . It is my first time drawing a mecha (hence the unoriginality and only top half) so i hope i got it right. I would really really appreciate any tips on Mecha or if you notice something off that i havn't noticed yet before i go and finish it.A little story about him - he is a light armor combat mecha and the girl on his shoulder (just shapes for now) is his twin soul. Mechas like this one who have there own 'artificial' intelligence are connected through some unexplainable phenomenon to a human (there twin soul). These mechas are not so much 'controlled' by humans but more like partnered with there twin soul. They feel each others pain and emotions (the mecha doesn't feel pain etc in the conventional way - more like they sense what there twin soul is going through, and Mechas dont feel pain, however there twin soul does feel the pain the mecha would not) and are connected by there very souls - hence the name twin soul. They are inseperable, no matter how much they may try.
I have taken a break from colouring and just sketching at the moment as my body aches from photoshop... plus i am getting disheartened by my crap colouring abilities!

Looks cool so far, I enjoy images of super robots with the pilot sitting on it~
Suggestion: I think that you need to keep outlines for all functioning parts clearly pronounced all the way around. It really irks me the neck appears to be attach to the clavicle because that removes the concept the head's base is separate from the body's frontal outer shield and gives the impression of hit me here.
Remember when engineering a mecha they're allot like pose-able action figures. The more easily a body part can move without force the more capabilities it has.
This mecha model of Go Nagai's Mazinger Z can be used as wonderful skeleton for a basic battle mecha as it contains solutions to mobility issue that the creators was himself ignorant of (note the ball joints attached to the hips) -----> [link]

I was having issues with the nexk/head connecting area myself
I am going to check out that link and try to improve it a bit

Go's robots are ugly but you new the mecha series can definitely comprehend how they work alot better then by looking at a Gundam.
Plus they offer allot of creative potential because you can completely reinvent them without much engineering knowledge.
