Description
As some of you may know I tried to create a series of images where one image leads into the following, sharing a world, and having a story connecting them. When i started this, the time limit for each deviation was around ~45 mins with quantity in mind. Starting with this i decided to go for quality. The underlying theme of this series is supposed to answer the question:
How can I capture the atmosphere of a H.P. Lovecraft Novell into a game enviroments?
What stands out the most in Lovecrafts stories is the amazing feeling of other-worldlyness and atmosphere he builds.
To recreate this I depicted / led up to a scene where we see through the protagonists eyes a light in the darkness of the flooded catacombs.
Lovecraft plays with the fear of the unknown and the dangers of curiosity. Therefore i did not want to hide a creature somewhere in the shadows or make something lurking in the dark. Instead I opend possibilities for the protagonist and the viewers mind.
The scene is from a low angle, we do not see what is up the flight of stairs only that it is bathed in some cold lights. But also that there are 3 more directions we could explore in or worse, be seen from.
The whole construction is apparently made for mankind but then again, why is it abbandoned, why build a drainsystem like this into a catacomb.

I don't know if you are aware but somebody took this picture of yours for a fake wow leak. I'm pretty sure you weren't asked about it.

This is a really good idea to create a series of images to tell a story. That really is a great practice and creative use of time to improve your skills so keep on with it yo. I think for capturing a Lovecraftian type of scene this is a good indication for the most part. He does have that creepy kind of crypt keeper cold vibe that I think this does well to capture. The greens of the water leading up to the top and use of light to illuminate and grab attention around the dome area is a great means to composition. The only thing I think it is lacking really is having that focal point really stand out against the rest of the image. While the light does keep the eye, the eye swiftly moves out since there isn't anything to really latch onto and create a rest in the piece. By that I mean either an organic element like a person or creature or even just sharper looking details while they're in this direct light. Still a lovely piece I feel

This is absolutely inspiring...
I love your use of colour and light, they both contribute to an intriguing, close-to-magical atmosphere.
Very well done!
