Description THE TRUTH

Logain surfaced later that night. He came to my room and put his arms around me. I was in his embrace for several minutes. Then I needed to ask the question.
"Logain?" My voice was weak. "Did you kill Deena?"
He was silent for a while. He merely held me and stroked my hair. Then he whispered softly in my ear: "I told you they wouldn't bother us again."
   "Is that a yes?"
He withdrew his arms and looked me deep into my eyes. "Yes."
"Oh, Logain. If they find out, they…they will kick you out. Or kill you! You've already escaped execution once!"
"Hush, don't worry. There is no proof, my dear. They will not be able to convict me."
   "I hope you're right."
I couldn't quite wrap my head around this truth. Logain had killed Deena. Murdered her. I didn't like the girl, but did she deserve to die? I felt as though I should be upset, but I wasn't. I was just worried what would happen to Logain.
But yes. She did deserve to die. Otherwise, Logain would not have killed her. He did the right thing. Deena had been a threat to our relationship.
Logain had been right to kill her. He had.

Naturally, Eyna approached me the same week. She looked at me judgingly, just like she had before.
"I know you, Weyla," she said. "You are a predator, but you do not kill others randomly, even if they insult you. It's just not you."
"That's good to know," I replied.
"That means that you're not a suspect in my eyes. However. I can't speak for Logain. He killed her, didn't he? Stabbed her to death, because she spoke against you two?"
   "He didn't kill anyone."
"You're lying. I know you are. He is making you cover for him."
"He is not making me cover for anyone! And you should be careful what you say to me, Eyna."
"Like Deena? What, will you kill me next?"
"Stop it! Logain is not a killer! Just drop it."
"I don't trust him. And I don't trust you. I used to be able to, to confide you with anything. But you've changed, Weyla. Logain has made you change."
I looked away. I hated this conversation. Again, I felt grief that our friendship had gone sour. I wanted so bad to be like we once were. I wanted to be with Logain, too, and it just didn't add up.
