THE RIGHT THING

Eyna came into my room after a couple of hours. Wesley still held me tight. She looked at me with hard eyes. I wish she would go away. I didn't want her to gloat. I didn't want her to say anything. Wasn't it enough that my Logain was gone?
   "An eye for an eye," she said decisively.
   "What?" I did not understand her.
   "Logain killed Deena. Everybody knows that, even if no one had any proof. He deserved to die. So I did the right thing."
   I jolted away from Wesley's arms. "You! You killed him?!" I rushed forward to beat the life out of her, but Wesley caught me and held me back.
   "He was doing something to you, Weyla. Changing you. Taking you away from us. You clung to him just like a child to her mother. And he was a murderer, twice over. Maybe more. We don't know his past in Anajol."
   "You! I will never forgive you. I will kill you for this! Logain didn't deserve to die!"
   "Yes, he did, and I'm not the only one who thinks that. I was just the one who had the guts to do anything about it. And I had the integrity to come forward about it, unlike some. I did not ask anyone to cover for me. One day you will understand."
   The fury blazed in me. Wesley still held me back. I would kill Eyna if he hadn't. He was strong, stronger than me. I tried to get free, but he held on to me tightly.
   "You will be sentenced for this, Eyna," he said. "I confine you to your quarters until we put up a hearing."
    Eyna left without a word. She simply gave me a indiscernible look before she walked away.
