So, continuing with my obsession over Fullmetal Alchemist, I was watching the anime, when a random thought crossed my head that Patamon would make a great Digimon partner for Alphonse. Well, from then on I had to work out who would be a great partner for each of the characters I like.

For Edward: Gabumon. Gabumon seems to be a good partner as Ed has the same protective instinct over Al that Matt has over T.K. Indeed, in the first part of Digimon adventure, most of the time Gabumon digivolved was to protect T.K. not Matt. Also, Ed is fiercely loyal to his friends--look at how he took care of Ling when they were in Gluttony's stomach, and how angry he was that Father forced Roy through the porthole and cause him to loose his sight.

Next to Ed is Winry, and her partner is Guardromon. My reasoning is that Winry is obsessed with machines, so she'd be overjoyed to have Guadromon, and his digievolutions as her partner. Also, Guardromon has such a gallant attitude (at least in season 3) that I can completely imagine him taking care of Winry

Roy. . . he was difficult. I wanted to give him a powerful partner, and something that fitted with flame throwing, so I thought, dragon, but the only one who fitted was Azulongmon. Plus as a Digimon Sovereign, he reflects Roy's high political ambitions.

Riza . . . I love the idea of her having a bird Digimon, given that her name is Hawkeye, and she is a sniper, but I couldn't give her a Rookie level partner--it didn't seem right. So, I chose Birdramon. Also, given that Riza is motivated by her love for Roy, she reflects the Crest of Love well. Also, she reminds me of the Phoenix that is Birdramon's motif . . .

As I said, Al seems to be a good partner for Patamon. Both are sweet, kind and gentle, and will hand you your ass on a plate if you piss them off. Also, Al never looses hope that he will recover his body, so he represents the Crest of Hope well.

Finally May. If Al is Patamon, then May has Gatomon (Reflecting the T.K x Kari idea). But, May is a small badass, like Gatomon, and like Gatomon, she spent alot of time working with the "bad guys". Also, she has alot of pink, which is the colour of the Crest of Light.
