Description
Poetry Link - [link]This picture is from my walkabout round my village, my maiden voyage of my new camera. I've already said in my journal about how liberated I felt with my camera, I felt like the lion from The Wizard of Oz who had finally been given the courage. This picture is the result. Whilst taking an average picture of the memorial from behind the barrier (closed until Nov 11th), I was spurred on to advance over it to get some closer shots. I thought "These people died for us, I want to show my appreciation by taking a better picture than I've got!".
Taking a picture of this tablet gave me something to contemplate on. How much to we REALLY remember the people who died for us in these world wars, other than the 2 minutes we give on Rememberance Day? Not a lot I thought, and that saddened me. To only get 2 minutes of thought when millions of humans died in horrible ways so I could live free seemed pretty unfair. So I wanted to take this to be a permanent reminder of my gratitude for my coutnrymen, and all people's countrymen who died in the world wars.
I also thought how we remember the people as a whole, but only as far as that. I took a picture of some names on the memorial, to pray and say thanks to those people in particular, and hopefully you might do that as well. Or go visit your local memorial and be inspired like I was. Said names are below:
E.H.A. EDE
G.J. FAULKNER
R.S. FRANKS
D.S. GOLDING
G. GORDON-POTTS
A.G. GRAINGER
