Description
The blob of Dark Matter shrieked caustically, the sounds reverberating as it slimed its way desperately into a corner, weakened by the constant assault.

It scurried as it moved, darting from side to side, squealing wretchedly like a trapped animal. It dragged itself, throwing out pseudopods and half-formed tentacles to stick to the ground, but its efforts were feeble, and it knew it was caught, sinking and seeping further into the corner, hopelessly trying to melt away and escape.

Galacta Knight landed hard in front of it with a metallic thud, wings flared, sending it into a frenzy of squirming, eyes bubbling up and receding by the dozens, bits of its form spraying off as he advanced, lance at the ready.

Pieces of it spattered onto his armor, tainting the immaculate white metal with an acrid hiss of darkness.

The Dark Matter still screamed and writhed. But Galacta Knight was silent and still. The only motion from him was the slow decent of shed feathers, bleached pallid from the poisoned darkness that encircled his own heart. He held his lance out so that the tip was a mere distance from the large central eye, prompting a veritable splash of shadow as his victim shrieked and spasmed in terror.

Galacta Knight's wings tensed in anticipation. The small claws he usually concealed beneath his feathers sprung forwards of their own accord, and he lowered his head, better displaying the impressive horns that sprouted there.

With a final derisive thrust, the brilliant lance struck true, and in a flash of light the wailing Dark Matter disintegrated, its cries dying into whimpers as the last of its body rotted away to nothing.

Galacta Knight stood frozen.

There was no release, no satisfaction. No sense of closure at the slaying of another beast. There wasn't even a hint of grim resolve.

Just emptiness.

And the burning itch of darkness curled tightly around his core.
