Description I was playing around with movie ideas that I'd like to see a remake of, and then thought of Water World.  I don't think a remake is necessary (especially since I loved Dennis Hopper in that) but what about a sequel?  Or even a prequel?

Anyway, here is my movie pitch.

It is about the early days of the epidemic, after most of the land has submerged under the water.  A few survivor colonies have been spread out over various mountaintops, the only place that land still exists.   Dr. Laura Rowlings, (played by Emma Watson) is one of the last survivors from the Mt. Saint Helens survival expedition team.  She is a deep-sea diver who helps to salvage equipment from the submerged cities below, equipment and supplies that are desperately needed on the surface.  Since so many people have cramped themselves up on top of the mountainside, there is now little room for growing crops, and the only solution that remains is to build these floating 'planting barges'.  But to do this, they will have to send several teams to bring up raw materials for the project to even be an option.

Dr. Laura Rowlings is both an oceanographer as well as a deep sea diver and is dedicated to the cause.  The only problem is that Laura isn't being sent off to find raw materials anymore, but rather to seek out these strange cases that are spread out on various submerged naval bases.  And as curious as she is, she is forbidden from opening the cases, and also discouraged from asking too many questions, for the higherups have total control over everything.

Now, she must decide on whether to defy her commanders in order to seek out answers, or to give them the 'trust' that they ask for.  And while one part of her honestly wants to believe them--especially since Jake, her lover, is amongst them-- there is also the other possibility that she is bringing up 'weapons' for what could only be described as one last purge.  The logic being, too many mouths to feed...

Anyway, it could be a fun movie.  It might also explain why Kevin Costner and his small crew weren't greeted by anybody when they had first arrived on land.  (I don't know if the book version explained this or not)  But maybe the last of humanity turns on itself.  Perhaps, our hero Laura Rowlings and a small crew will go off into the sunset via a sailboat, while the madness unfolds on the now small island of Mount Saint Helens.

So what do you think?  Cool idea?  Or just leave the classis alone?  I totally get the latter response.  So many movies are getting destroyed by remakes or sequels.  But maybe if they got all the right people to direct and such.  I dunno.

Anyhow, I had fun putting Emma Watson in an aquatic environment.  I was thinking of a small ship that would take the divers out a good ways before it deployed them.  Of course, I really don't have any research on this.  If the oceans flooded up to Mount Saint Helens height, would divers get crushed if they dove down to the old waterline?  I plead ignorance on this.    Maybe one of you know the answer.  I know that Kevin Costner's character was able to do this, but that was in part because he was some sort of mutant.  So I dunno.    Anyway, I was just having fun.  Hope you like the picture.
