Description
Tutorial for painting a close-up of a Wolf (or any other furry creature).WARNING: large file. It might take a while before the tutorial shows up on your screen, so please, be patient. I was too lazy to add a preloader...
Use the buttons at the top of the tutorial to navigate through the slides. I have no idea why the text has turned out jagged and hard to read, so I apologise if you have difficulties reading it.
ARTIST'S COMMENTS
Thank you ever so much for my second DD ~AnimalLover345 and ^shelldevil !
EDIT: Due to popular demand I re-named the tutorial more appropriately "How to Paint a Wolf".
EDIT 2: Fixed all known spelling mistakes.
A tutorial I pulled together of my last Wolf piece. I don't know if it will be of help or use to anyone, but there's no harm in making one anyway! Please bear in mind that this is the first time I've drawn something this furry this close up, so I'm sure there are other ways of doing this too.
If you have any problems with viewing the tutorial or any questions or problems in general, please let me know. I'll be happy to help as much as I can
NOTE: The tutorial explains functions and options available in Adobe Photoshop CS2. Any older or newer version of Photoshop should still work just as well. I have no experience in any other digital editing program (such as GIMP or Corel Painter) so I have no idea to what extent you can follow the tutorial there. If anything, it might just give you an idea of how to draw similarly, but you will have to find out on your own I'm afraid.

How did u make the last look? just keep coloring it?
and what's the deffrence between coloring with air brush and normal brush?

cerona In reply to WolfySM [2011-08-30 12:46:31 +0000 UTC]
The last one is just by adjusting the hue/saturation, colour balance etc. All those different sliders that determine the light and dark of the picture. As far as I know, the air brush have a much better flow than normal brushes, i.e the harder you press, the more solid the stroke appears, whilst if you're very gentle with it, you get very faint lines. Normal brushes are equally solid no matter how hard or lightly you press, and only the thickness of the line varies.

So air brush+ more hardness = gives the faint lines? cool ^^

in the step 2 , u said to use big and hard brush. What's the advantage of the hardness?

cerona In reply to WolfySM [2011-08-30 12:44:17 +0000 UTC]
Hardness just means it doesn't have any of the soft blurriness that soft brushes have, which make them ideal for laying down flat colours which have hard edges. I.e you wouldn't want the nose of the wolf to be all blurry and stuff, but well defined.

If I'm using a reference, how do I know which color I should use as a flat color? O.o

cerona In reply to megzyxiii [2011-08-30 12:42:54 +0000 UTC]
Just try and pick the colour that's not too dark or light. Usually you can tell where the shades/highlights hit the fur, so try and pick a colour that is of a mid-range value.

Great tutorial! Very well explained. I love the fact that you gave us the brush settings. I find it really hard to match the brush settings if the tutorial doesn't give them. Thank you so much for sharing!
