If you use the dodge tool, you add highlights. Like the shine in the eyes or on the fur. With the burn tool you make shadows

@.@ although this is a very nice tutorail, it doesnt really teach artists how to express them selves with differnt brushes. dodge tool can be very helpful, but, as i've said before, try using different brushes. When you get a picture done that quickly it just doesnt make people admire your owkr as much, i honostly like yoru flats and the linarts, and im envioius of your lineart skills.

Thanks but like i said before this is how i work. No one has to do the same as me. It's helpful if you're new to all this stuff. I use brushes. Besides i know other ways of shading, okay. No reason to flame me, just because i'm helpful for others.

im not flaming you, i never was, i was giving my own opinion in what i though, if i was flaming i'd be like
OMFG
THIS
IS SO FUCKING WRONG, WHY ARE YOU TEACHING HORRIBLE TECHNIQUES
YOU HAVE TO DO IT MY WAY
no i never said that, i just was saying lots of artists dont really consider this a good technique because the tools are provided for you, i guess since i've learned better techniques i agree. But for beginners its fine so long as they dont constantly abuse the tools and use every singler picture to shade/light that way.

Fine, but remember, i said it's helpful for beginners. Of course they need to learn other ways to shade their pictures. I never said i'm one of the best artists here, but i still try to help others, who aren't that good. So you don't need to tell me constantly that it isn't the best tutorial. I know that.
It is a help for beginners, they don't even must do it this way. I just give them an example.

i said it was a decent tutorial, its nice and it explains alot of things. So it is a good tutorial for begginers. *shrugs* they way you shade is how you shade, im just saying tell other people they should expierment with other ways so they can develope thier own way of shading instead of copying you, cause some people will, why,i dont know.

Thanks. I know that they shouldn't copy me, hell i wouldn't even like that, but i give tips, like using the range or the opacity or whatever. Thats all.

yeah but in the end they might still copy you, young artists never learn to branch out and feel they have to keep coloring/drawin the same way until someones really mean and insults them @.@ so hopefully they'll laern to do something else and not copy you. the burn tool is a good tool for understanding and practacing shading, but lighting is pretty hard to learn, and if yo uhave a specific lighitng source i dont think the dodge tool helps much since its like a white brush, right?

Well i don't think i can stop them, but if they get insulted or something other it would be their own fault. Nowadays everyone should know, that coping someone is a sensitive subject. The dodge tool helps a lot, but using outerglow or other ways is better. Like a white brush? I think that depends on the color.

eh well in know when i use it in ps, it like, if you over lap it to much it turns white, or if you dont put pen pressure on it'll turn white quickly.
