Thanks.. actually I don't work there anymore, but I was a tour guide not a zookeeper (I wish I was the zookeeper)

Not bad at all. Many nasty retics are wild caughts, or ones not handled much when they were younger. Plenty of them are tame.. that doesn't mean you should go out and buy one on a whim.

nice tiger. I have a super tiger but it's a male so it won't be that massive. Maybe it's just the picture but it looks like he has rubbing on his nose which makes me think his housing conditions are not up to par. 90% of the zoo's I've been to fail to properly care for their burms and retics.

That snake came with the nose rub. It was bloody when the snake arrived. It's much better now. It has something like a 10' by 4' cage.

lol.. well there are dwarf retics that don't grow as large. Relatively though.. only 12' instead of 30'.

Yeah, but they're pretty freaking expensive right now. i don't know if the market will ever bring the prices down.

Cerulean-Serpent In reply to starglo21 [2005-03-04 05:42:11 +0000 UTC]
Sure they will. The dwarf retics haven't been in the market that long. There is high demand right now, but retics lay BIG clutches, so give it a few years and they'll be cheaper. Personally I don't think $500-600 is a lot for such a snake.

Heh, it is when you make $6.50 an hour - makes just about any good snake too expensive right now. My next purchase will probably be either a carpet python or a blood.

I make roughly $7 an hour and I just bought a $275 blood python.. she'll be my 8th snake.
Can't wait to recieve her.

Ooh, did you get her from NERD?
If it weren't for the stinking student loan payments *grumble* and the fact that I'm planning to move out of the country for a little while...

Cerulean-Serpent In reply to starglo21 [2005-03-04 05:57:33 +0000 UTC]
Yes I got her from NERD alright. Kara produces some of the nicest bloods I've ever seen.
Yeah.. student loans can suck. Only biggish payment I have to make is board on my horse.

I once purchased a neonate blood from a little show in birmingham. That ended in tragedy, and I do believe the dealer was to blame. So I've decided that my next blood will definitely be from NERD.

Ah.. that sucks. Can't go wrong with NERD.
I just bought a Hogg Island boa.. turns out she has a respiratory infection, so I have to inject her with antibiotics now. Poor thing.. I just hope she gets better. Good thing is she ate.

It is cool.. but I'm a tour guide, not a zookeeper. (if only..)
Still, I get to handle lots of the animals too.

Oh right, still cool if you get to play with em! I worked in a quarentine centre once, and even though there was more poo than animals being able to pay with em made up for it!
Maybe a tour guide is the way in! I live near a few Safari Parks maybe I should enquire.

Wow that looks really good. I love how the whole shot is taken up by the snake, and the way the lighting makes it look so warm. The colours of the snake and the lighting on it work well together and make this piece very eye catching. Keep it up!

Yes, I work at a reptile zoo as a tour guide.. I also handle snakes (not huge ones, but big ones) sometimes I get to handle a baby alligator and many other miscellaneous critters.
It's fun.. except for the occasional annoying person. (ok more than occasional)

I think one tends to get more than their fair share of annoying people when you happen to have a snake slung around your shoulders.

Would they let you take one if you wanted one? That would be awesome if you could. Would you want a boy or a girl? Three of my snakes are girls and the other's a boy. I just love them all to death!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Cerulean-Serpent In reply to LacunaCobra [2005-01-25 04:59:28 +0000 UTC]
They're for sale. It's just I don't have the room for one, and my county is in the process of banning green anacondas... and retics, burms, and some other really cool reptiles.
I'd get a male since they don't get so big.
I have two girls, a boy, and one unknown (appears to be female)
Oh and another girl on the way... and yet another girl 'probably' on the way.
What snakes do you have? Or did I ask already.. sorry if I did, can't remember who I've asked!

I have a royal python, 2 cali kings, 1 rainbow boa. Are you looking for people to adopt these guys? I may be able to give you some names if you'd like. Lemme know!

I love rainbow boas! They're on my list of snakes to get. Are your cali kings brats too?

Hmmm... Coral is the sweetest. She's what I call a "lap" snake, like lap dog! Lenix is a brat, big time! He'll sit with me every now and then, but he nails me here and there when he thinks I'm gonna feed him. Goofy snake!
