Sara suspiró por undécima vez. El cargante olor a polvo y suciedad la estaba mareando, pero no más que aquél gato negro.
- Ya te lo he dicho, ¡no soy ninguna bruja! Soy totalmente normal, ¿acaso no me ves? ¡No tengo verrugas en la nariz ni una escoba que vuele! Las brujas solo existen en los cuentos, ya sabes, para asustar a los niños... - repitió, cansada ya de alegar lo mismo siempre.
- ¿También lo gatos negros que hablan aparecen solo en los cuentos? - dijo Enoch, agitando la cola con sorna, señalándose a sí mismo.
Sara no pudo evitar sentirse molesta. No podía negar que aquella situación no era de cuento: sentada en la parte superior de un granero en una ciudad fantasma, hablando con un gato negro que, para su sorpresa, le respondía, y además la incitaba a estudiar brujería, ofreciéndose el mismo como tutor. Tenía la mano izquierda entumecida de darse pellizcos, en intentos de despertarse de ese mal sueño en vano. Y luego estaba aquella ropa. Sara se había despertado en mitad de un campo de calabazas, y se había llenado toda la ropa de barro. Después de un par de horas recuperándose de la sorpresa, el animal se ofreció a dejarle un vestido que allí tenía. Cuando Sara terminó de cambiarse, comenzó la conversación. Y llevaban tres cuartos de hora con lo mismo. Probó una táctica diferente.

- ¿Qué me impediría salir de este granero y buscar el camino a casa yo sola? - dijo, frunciendo el ceño.
Enoch alzó las orejas. La cola se le erizó un poco.
- No quieras saberlo... por muy normal que te parezca el bosque desde esta ventana, es más peligroso que cualquier otro, el más inmenso que existe. Te perderías en pocas horas o morirías de hambre. Por no hablar de las bestias que rondan desde hace ¿cuánto? ¿Dos noches? Esos bichos nacieron ayer, y todavía tienen hambre.

Sara tragó saliva. Enoch se sintió triunfante por haber sorprendido a la muchacha, pero cambio su tono a uno más conciliador y compasivo.
- Mira, no voy a obligarte ni a que te quedes ni a que te marches. Siéntete libre de hacer lo que quieras, pero no tienes muchas opciones - los ojos de Sara se encontraron con los suyos, notablemente desesperados - ...pero eres más necesaria de lo que puedas imaginar. Dentro de unas pocas lunas tienes que participar en algo muy importante.
- ¿... pero y si no quiero? - susurró.
A Enoch se le encogió el corazón.
- Estudiar magia requiere mucha voluntad propia. No se puede obligar a nadie a estudiarla. Es tu decisión, Sara.
Hubo un silencio ensordecedor que pareció infinito. Sara se encontraba entre la espada y la pared.
- ... acepto - dijo, como última palabra.

ENGLISH~
Sara sighed for the eleventh time. The tiresome smell of dust and dirt made she feel dizzy, but nothing like the black cat.
- As I told you, I'm not a witch! I am totally normal, you didn't see me?I have no warts on the nose or a broom to fly! The witches exist only in fairy tales, you know, to scare the children ... - she repeated, tired of allege the same again.
- So speaking black cats appear only in fairy tales too? - Said Enoch, tail wagging sarcastically, pointing to himself.

Sara could not help feeling annoyed. She could not deny that that situation was not like a fairy tale: sitting on top of a barn in a ghost town, talking to a black cat, that for her surprise, answered her, and in addition encouraged her to study witchcraft, offering himself same as tutor. Her left hand was numb to be pinched in attempts to wake up from this bad dream in vain. And then there was that clothes. Sara had woken up in the middle of a field of pumpkins, and had filled all the clothes with mud. After a couple of hours to recover from the surprise, the animal offered to let a dress that was there. When Sarah finished changing, they began the conversation. And they took three quarters of an hour with the same. She tried a different tactic.

- What could prevent me to go out of this barn and find the way home by myself? - She said, frowning.
Enoch raised his ears. His tail bristled a little.
- You don't want to know ... by quite normal that you see the forest from this window, it is more dangerous than any other, the most immense. Probably you will find yourself lost in a few hours or would starve. Not to mention the beasts that haunt, since when? Two nights? Those things were born yesterday, and still hungry.

Sara swallowed hard. Enoch felt triumphant for having surprised the girl, but changed his tone to a more conciliatory and compassionate.
- Look, I will not force you to stay or to leave - Sara's eyes met him, notably desperate - ... but you're more necessary than you can imagine. Feel free to do whatever you want, but you don't have many options. Within a few moons you have to participate in something very important.
- ... But, what if I don't want to? - she whispered.
Enoch's heart sank.
- Studying magic requires a lot of will. You can't force anyone to study. It's your choice, Sara.
There was a deafening silence that seemed infinite. Sara was between the sword and the wall.

- ... agree - said, as the last word.
