Description
Catherine Zeta-JonesI picked up a set of twelve watercolor pencils a while back and wanted to try my hand with them. I didn't really use any of the unique properties of watercolor pencils, so this could just as well have been done with regular color pencils.
Watercolor pencils
General's black, brown, straw, red, and orange
General's Factis vinyl eraser
Aquabee 90# sketch vellum purchased in 2007, rough side (smooth side doesn't erase well)

She looks a little like Olivia Hussey in her younger days from this angle

Very good work! What's your impression of using these pencils? Do you enjoy drawing in colour more than in black and white?

Actually, I liked the watercolor pencils quite well. I had to be very careful with this drawing because except for straw I had only dark colors to work with, so I had to use very light pressure to get the slight amount of tint necessary for the skin tones. A bigger set would probably remedy that issue, however.
I wouldn't say that I enjoy drawing in color more than in black and white, but I do enjoy it, although color pencils are not generally as forgiving (i.e., erasable) as graphite or even charcoal so you have to be more deliberate. These watercolor pencils are more forgiving than the wax based colored pencils I used for Alsou though.
