"Fire Streak decided to retire and teach full-time. Cloudsdale Flight School will probably be churning out Wonderbolts with him there."
Imagine my disappointment when Fire Streak was written out of Newbie Dash by retiring offscreen, in order to free up a slot for Rainbow Dash in the Wonderbolts.

We never even got to meet him, even if that'd have been just extra shots in the background or even a one-word line by one of or whichever male VA (or male-sounding VA) happened to be there. Despite that, there was a blue-maned and purple-eyed recolor of him in various parts of the episode, I guess since they needed an extra design and just recolored him, not minding if people would notice or not. There's probably something else on how there weren't that many notable male Wonderbolts already. Just hipster things!

Oh well, as a result he gets probably one of my proudest works in a while after a bit of trial and error. So proud in fact that I even added a little signature because artists do that a lot, right?

Initially, I tried having his head face a bit farther away from us, but that didn't quite work out when I tried doing some kind of "waving off" motion with his wing. Feeling that wasn't enough, I then tried making him do a salute with his wing (boy, was it fun vectoring a saluting wing from this angle which has little to no reference in the show that had me examining my various pony toys/sculptures with wings wondering what the heck to do), but I took that back when I tried his pose myself in real life, seeing that you should salute or wave with your arm opposite from the direction you are turning, or it just looks weird or your arm and shoulder gets in the way. Thus, his other forearm is doing that instead.

That and making his far wing salute was very hard to make visible at this angle with his mass of mane, since I also took the opportunity to turn his head more toward us. A different, minor thing I tried was adding a blur to those clouds in the background, but I felt that was overkill so initially the grass got it by itself instead.

...And that specific use of blurs led to me trying to shade a full body for once, which for me is unheard of (well, other than this example which admittedly is not as extensive), and at that point there was no turning back. But I could always use some more pointers, aye. Otherwise, to date, this is my second-most favorite thing that I have ever made with Inkscape.
