There currently is very little wall space in my home left unadorned by pictures of teddy bears, robots, and random fan art. I usually just hang them up when they're done.
I enter them in all sorts of local art shows, but I am really hoping to transition into a job as a full time illustrator.

You would make for an awesome children's book illustrator! You should have a show at a local gallery. Sometimes local galleries host big events for "new/upcomming" artists and table fees are pretty reasonable. Heck, you can even rent a table at some comic conventions for a decent price.
