[Previous] --Sleeper's Story-- [Next]

Oh, Scotland... It was beautiful --breathtaking, even. Emil had rarely been out of the USA before, disregarding the traveling that he had done as a child on his mother's podcasting adventures. Those memories were hazy now, few and far between, given that he stood in an adult's shoes. Stepping off the plane was an exciting endeavor, and he had to constantly remind himself to boil it down to business when it came to the mundane logistics of airfare, expenses, bookings and the sheer intimidating mountain of paperwork required to move Sleeper from the ass end of one continent to another.
Thank goodness the jenny was proving to be an easy traveler. They could've picked a closer destination for her first real show away from home, but Gods, was it selfish for Emil to have wanted to get out of the country? With the unexpected death of his grandfather and the hazy blur that had come with the turnaround of his estates and the bereavement of his mother's side of the family, it was honestly starting to feel a bit suffocating. He had the money now so.. why not? Why shouldn't he have run away to Scotland at the first opportunity? Jona wasn't complaining. The man had practically bounced in that first class ticket all the way to Inverey. He'd even washed up for the trip --slicked back that dirty blonde hair and shined his boots. The effort wasn't verbally acknowledged, but his employer had certainly stared.
Emil'd collapsed onto his hotel bed that first night after the chaos of landing and sorting out the day had settled down into a dull thrum, and though sleep had been wary to claim him, he'd stared up at the ceiling with creased brows and curious blue eyes for what felt like hours. How strange, to be miles away from home, and yet.. oh, perhaps the ghost of peace was simply late to claim him. He wondered if it should find him out on that hunting course. It seemed to have a way of slipping into his blood whenever he was peering in between Sleeper's long ears. She had a way of that --of making him forget his troubles. Perhaps she should charge by the hour. Gods knew horses and mules made the best therapists.
By the time slivers of morning light began to pour in through the curtains, Emil was already up and dressed in his gear so that he could hop off to Jona's room with Grey at his heels and collect him to get off to boarding stables. Both men were predominantly silent, save for a few professional conversational exchanges pertaining to the whats and the hows of the day, though Emil fumbled rather awkwardly with his phone --thank goodness he'd fiddled with that international SIM card last night--when it started ringing, flashing his mother's name in bold letters. He answered it quietly, muttered a few reassuring words, then hung up and decided that texting her a few paragraphs would simply be the better option given that Jona was obviously stifling a smile.
Once their hired taxi pulled up at their destination, they were both hopping out. Sleeper was --perhaps expectedly--sleeping still, and barely seemed to want to lip at her breakfast in her stall even if she lowered her head for scritches when her two favorite people swung around to check up on her. They'd made prior arrangements regarding the jenny's arrival boarding, but she would be staying in the guest stables at the facility after the hunt. She was promptly loaded up into their hired trailer after it was delivered, as was her tack --albeit separately--and though it was something of a tight fit into the truck, soon all four figures --owner, employee, hired driver, and dog--were on their way to the drag hunt.
When they arrived, it felt like they'd crossed the threshold into a world of steadily escalating chaos. People, horses, dogs, trucks, cars, and God knows what else were all milling about together in the grass and mud, and finding parking was absolute Hell on earth for the man that Emil had thankfully prepaid. Getting out of the vehicle was something of a relief, and immediately it was down to business getting everything prepared.
"Busy, innit?" Jona grunted as he ran a brush over Sleeper's back, having just finished tying the jenny to the side of the trailer. She had her head up now and her long ears pricked, actually seeming interested in things happening around her for the first time that morning.
"You can say that again..." Emil sighed, shaking his head as he reached back to collect his mule's long tail, running a comb through it briefly before beginning to twist a quick and simple braid into it. It had come out in the night somehow, and the black ribbon he'd picked out of her boarding stall had been utterly soiled, but thankfully he'd brought more.
Well, this was going to be fun!

This is adorable! If you want to explore more hunter style stuff, or do a mule training session I'm open to collabs for either! My Mule is western focused but my AM warmblood lady has a bunch of hunter training!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much!! I normally don't do hunting --it's more of an occasional indulgence--as my primary discipline of choice is actually Show Jumping, but I honestly think it'd be really fun to do some collaboration and training!
The more mules, the better
Feel free to note me and I can give you my discord if you use it, or we can figure something out
