After seventy-nine months and four days at Deer Ridge (including 103 days at Quarry Camp) prisoner 25916 was finally released to rejoin her former life as Amy Stone. Initially on parole and living in a group home secured for her by the warden, Amy worked at a distribution center loading up pallets with can goods. She had no family in this sector--her brother and sister lived on the east coast.

Amy worked with several prisongirls. She could tell by their tattoos where they had been held: Snake River, Complex A and B. even Deer Ridge, E Block. The additional markings Amy had received when Deer Ridge became a Severe Punishment Complex had faded soon after she left there. Now all she had were the two on each forearm, her number 25916 and the words "ESCAPE RISK." Most people didn't pay much attention to such things. Prisongirls were everywhere. They came from every class, background, race, and ethnicity. Amy was relieved to be free again, but she found it hard to relax or feel settled.

Almost a year later, the warden of Deer Ridge contacted her and asked if she would like her old job back. She was afraid that meant she was about to be imprisoned again. He clarified that she would be a paid civilian, not an inmate. Since she had left, the office had slipped into disorganization. He offered her a modest salary-- still three times what she was currently earning-- plus benefits, and a place to live in the apartments located just down the road from the complex where some of the employees resided.

Amy took the job, and was soon back to her former duties but only from eight to five Monday through Friday. Even with her back, they still needed extra help. Fortunately, Amy found among the complex prisoners a bright and petite former graduate student coincidentally also named Amy. She had gotten into some trouble already. She was classed as a "Problem Prisoner" and had a circle tattooed around her mouth indicating she had spoken to an authority figure without permission more than twice. She had pierced nipples with bells attached. If she was to survive she needed to be part of the office staff.

As it turned out, Problem Prisoner 31779, or Amy 2 as some called her, had an even better way with numbers and data than Amy. Everything was soon running smoothly. They even helped some of the other complexes remotely. If there was a problem with the accounts or records somewhere, they'd say "Put the 'Amys' on it!"

Amy 2 slept in Amy's old cell there in the office. She didn't even have to go to roll call. But she did work seven days a week and even holidays.

When Amy 2 was released and resumed being Amy Chen she was hired on at Snake River.

Having been a prisoner for seventy-nine months there, she suffered more than a few whippings across her back, her breasts, her buttocks, her thighs, etc. Not surprisingly, she didn't enjoy this extra attention, so she wouldn't think of using it on Amy 2. It does make a good pointer, fly swatter, door opener, not to mention the playful pokes she occasionally gives Amy 2 when she gets too engrossed in her work.
