Description
A couple of months back, I entered a bookmark competition for my local library. The theme was pretty open, as it just had to emulate the phrase "Communities Matter @ Your Library", so I was free to do whatever I wanted. This, of course, meant drawing raccoonsI entered this same competition last year and didn't even place, but I tried a new approach with digital art this year and I came in first place! My bookmark was printed this month and is now circulating around the libraries in my county. It's actually pretty awesome to see kids coming by, picking up my bookmark, and being encouraged to read. I never thought until now my art could be used for something like that.
I've been sitting on this art since I submitted my entry, not wanting to post it and maybe invalidate the judging, but I'm free to post it now that it's all over

Very cute, but a little forced. I mean, why does the bottom 'coon hold up the others?

Thank you for the compliment As for why the bottom one is holding them up? Well, my concept for this image was that all three of them were sneaking out at night to read a book, and they all wanted to read it, but had to take 'turns' to do so. It's the middle one's turn first, and the raccoon with the flashlight can still read it perfectly well from her position, so she doesn't mind waiting. The raccoon on the bottom, however... Well, he's getting a little impatient and wants to read the book too
Plus, his head makes for a fine desk to rest it on!
Also, I was just being a little silly with composition and wanted a 'totem pole' layout
Nice observation, though

Looks very good to me, it makes me want to pick up. Great job, it's really great to see this.
I'm not sure what else to say that won't sound like I'm just repeating myself, so I'll leave off on that.

Hehe, no worries It means a lot that you think this turned out so well! I do wish it were around in more libraries so that it'd be easier for my friends to get copies.

I work at a library, so I've a similar love for such imagery My coworkers were pretty big fans of it too. I guess we can really 'get' the concept of someone being so excited to read

I am now head librarin for the St Martin University in Colombia; previously I worked at a binational center for teaching English and this kind of posters were one of our best resources!

Heh, if only it were a nation-wide competition Though then I probably would have had a much tougher time...
Thank you very much for the compliment, Chu
